Had read good reviews on trip advisor. This restaurant is a 5 minute drive from Obidos and is located in a XVI century Franciscan convent. My wife & I spent a wonderful evening at this restaurant dinner is by reservation only, when we booked Filipe recommended a menu which was absolutely amazing he even selected local wines to match. If you visit one restaturant in Obidos it should be Cantina Criativa.

Worth searching out. Lovely courtyard. Limited menu but all delicious. Buy a few dishes and share is my recomendation. Friendly service and amazing value. My daughter declared the chocolate pudding the best ever. It was so good we took a few extra back to the villa. They were in small metal containers which we returned with for another lovely lunch :) Only open for lunch. Evenings by arangement. Sat nav co-ordinates N 39.36737 W 009.13268

We wanted to eat here as we had heard such wonderful reports. Times are hard so the owner now only opens in the evening when he has reservations,he took our family booking for 6 people and we gave him an idea of what we would like to eat taking non-fish eaters into account. When we arrived we were the only ones in the restaurant but it didn`t spoil things because the atmosphere of the building is so special and also we got undivided attention from Filipe and his assistant. He cooked just for us giving us 2 appetizers of goats cheese with mango and pate with delicious breads then carrot and pumpkin soup dressed with rosemary and cream. Our main courses were traditional cod crumble, moist and tasty or pork loin and risotto both served with salad. Dessert was a traditional cake, very light with home made ice cream. Delicious. Filipe served us 2 bottles of memorable wine and liquers and sent us on our way with doggy bags! All this was 30 Euros per head. Please go here... you will not be disappointed. It is hard to find so google map it first and /or ring to book (939 326 568). Otherwise - head away from Obidos towards the old sanctuary which looks like a large disused Church. Head for Gaeiras, past the "Stay In" on the left. Turn right at the roundabout opp the cash and carry, and right again. Then another right turn and the Convent St Miguel is signposted. Bon Appetite.

Having seen the other recommendations, I thought this must be worth a try.
The Cantina offers the dishes of the day, at most a couple of choices and all the better for it. Filipe the chef and owner elevates simple portuguese cuisine with lovely flavour combinations and great imagination. He is clearly passionate about his food and it shines through in his cooking. We went back a second time and have already recommended the restaurant to friends. From the savoury dishes, the pork, chorizo and broad bean casserole was amazing, the chicken and aubergine tarte, delicious and the petit chocolate gateaux, creme brulee and walnut cake all superb and reasonably priced. Can't wait to go back on our next trip to Portugal. The restaurant is currently open weekdays but will cater where possible for parties at other times if you book. The Convento Do St Miguel in Gaeiras (nr Obidos) is not easy to find. We struggled and mentioned this to Filipe. Apparantly he will try to address this with better signs. In the mean time, the following may be useful.
Directions:
From the A8, J17 is the nearest exit. At the end of the exit slip rd follow the sign for Obidos. At the next roundabout take the last exit, left towards Gaeiras (From Obidos on Caldas rd you will come to the same roundabout from the opposite direction). Follow this road until you cross the A8 and then take the next right. Pass the Rua Do Convento on left and take next right into a no through rd, The convent is on the right just before a bridge.
There is parking inside the walled entrance. Part of the convent has been converted for businesses. Go through reception to get to Cantina Criavita.
