We made a quick visit to Obidos, Portugal (an hour's drive from Lisbon) to see the Christmas festival. It was well worth the trip. The town is quaint and interesting. The castle that dominates the community is attractive, with a stunning viaduct, impressive walls and very picturesque buildings. The festival itself was great fun -- low-key, not overly commercial and very kid friendly. The narrow street that leads the festival sight was lined with shops, restaurants and other attractions. The festival attractions include a maze, cart circuit, a very short and slow slide, a tiny ice-rink, games, toy factory, Santa, etc etc. The regional schoolkids are our in mass and they added to the entertainment for the day. This was just a fun time, nothing ritzy or pretentious, but good, down to earth, local fun.
