“basic but served its purpose”
Reviewed January 5, 2014

Difficult to find on foot, ended up getting a taxi. Guest house is near the top of a steep hill. Basic but clean no mirror in room and no electric socket in bathroom, however they did put a mirror in the room after requesting one. Can't comment on breakfast s we never ate there. Walked 5/10mins down the hill and had the best English breakfast tea/coffee in Starbucks. No t.v in room. Once down the hill you were central to most places. Lots of attractions/places of interest on hills. Recommend a 2 day pass for tour bus/trams (4 zone), seen most of the sights this way.

The location, the staff were very friendly and helpfull. The history of the Guesthouse was interesting, the wide old marbel staircase. Big Windows looking over the street. Very good value for money. The hotel is in a quiet street in the center , it also has several very authentic restuarants and several shops. The room was spacious with high celllings and an amazing view from the balcony. Would definitely stay here over and over again.

My only good comment about this hotel is that the girl on reception was extremely pleasant and helpful and I am sure if she had a vacant room she could have moved us into she would have.
The room which was out in an annexe was very damp, the musty smell was so bad that we could not sleep and the bed was damp and so small that it was barely a double. The shower and toilet smelled and were also very small and badly in need of refurbishing. After one very bad night we had to check out and find somewhere else to stay for our other 3 nights. The photos on the website do not give a proper indication of the property. We had wanted a traditional Lisbon house and were not expecting luxury but this was beyond funny. Maybe the main house was a better option but the room we had (108) was reached by an outside staircase that was very dark and the stairs were wet and dangerous. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stayed at the Lavra Guesthouse for four nights in september 2013. The hotel is located in a traditional Lisbon house in a very quiet street in the Lavra neighbourhood.. In 3 minutes you can reach the Baixa with the nearby elevador do Lavra, it's a steep climb to get back to the hotel. The staff is really friendly and helpful. Breakfast is worth the 5 euro extra they charge with croissants and decent coffee. I travelled alone so they put me in a really small room at the back of the building. This was an extremely quiet room which I appreciate a lot and they cleaned every day but on the con it was a very small room and the shower was a bit rusty and worn out.I paid 55 Euros/night which is not a lot but definitely enough for what I got. The hotel has a very nice roof terrace with great views.

Room Tip: Stay in the main building, rooms are more spacious.

This was my first time to Lisbon, Portugal and I am so happy that I chose to stay at Lavra Guesthouse. Miriam and Pedro are outstanding hosts and the hotel is just beautiful. It is located in the Baixa district and the views are spectacular. The room is simple and clean and has all of the amenities necessary to have simple holiday. The breakfast is great too but just remember to book for breakfast the night before. Also, the guesthouse has a stunning terrace that is open to all who stay there. I discovered the terrace a bit late so please remember to look for it on your first day. The rooms facing the street are slightly noisy but that was only because Portugal vs. Northern Ireland were playing and Portugal won! I can strongly recommend this hotel. It is truly a jewel in a beautiful city as Lisbon. I hope to return soon. Thanks again for your hospitality and service. Gigliola

What a pity! In the internet we imagined a completely different hotel. It is not well located, there is no metro or bus station in the area and you need to walk 15 minutes downhill to reach Praça da Figueira where you have some options. The room is quite simple and there is no air conditioners (only fans). The pillow were not comfortable. The breakfast (optional) is Ibis pattern, basic, basic, basic. I do not recommend this hotel. Is quite expensive for what it offers.
