“Modern tradition”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

This restaurant offers regional portuguese cuisine with a modern touch. Both the food and service are very good. You must book ahead, otherwise you'll probably be sent away or have to wait for some time.

“Excellent food, good atmosphere, excellent Price”
Reviewed July 21, 2013

Stayed near the airport and colleagues recommended this restaurant since it is quite near (5min by car). Food was excellent (try bacalhau com natas). The atmosphere is OK, the restaurant is located in an urban area. There are some tables outside. Inside it is very simple. Service was good and the price (appetizers, main, dessert, wine and coffee) 25€ per person.
If you are staying near the airport, go there!

“Delicious!”
Reviewed July 1, 2013

We were on vacation and looking for a non-tourist restaurant to visit, and TripAdvisor steered up to Salsa e Coentros. The reviews were all in Portuguese or Spanish, but there were a lot of them and a positive score, so what the heck?

Dinner was delicious. Service was great. The owner, who spoke English, directed us to a nice white wine (they call it green because the grapes are not fully ripe yet). Everything about the experience was great. I had a nice, fresh piece of cod, roasted with lemon. Yum!

Highly recommended, but we aware it is off the main streets in a neighborhood, so have a map or take a taxi.

“American In Lisbon”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

So....what you need to know....it's not easy to find...none of the little places are. So, make sure you have a GOOD map and someone good at navigating. We walked there (15 min. walk)

The owner, also our server, spoke English. The menu, obviously, was not in English. There is an app (wordlens) that is VERY good for trying to translate something like a Portuguese menu so you have an idea of what you are getting.

I am only reviewing my meal...Filet and the equivalent of a caprese salad. Well, both were excellent. Truly. I was very happy with what I was served.

The reviews stated reservations suggested...we went at 9pm on a Tuesday and had no problem with getting a table!

So, if you are NOT used to European meals...what you need to know:
1- the server will not hound you with drink refill requests and present you with your bill. Ask for it.

2- they eat late...most restaurants don't open until 8pm or later. Enjoy it. Eat outside. Chat.

3-Tipping isn't the same as it is in the states...research it for the country you're going to, before you go.

“Alentejo specialties in a residential area”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

The Alentejo region offers great quality food that is different from the regular tourist menus that are offered throughout the city. And this is a good place to come and try some of its dishes. To start don't miss the mini chicken empanadas, they're so good. Then there is an ample choice of black pig (also known as pata negra) dishes. And there is hunted game, I had the partridge escabeche style but it also comes as an empanada which is quite popular. If you're feeling adventurous and are not afraid of filling up try one of the migas or acorda dishes, made with traditional Alentejo bread, the one is fried the other comes in a sort of broth. I have never encountered any dish across the world that resembles this. Of course there are fish choices as well. All of this topped with superb wines, as always at half the price of what you would pay back at home. The signature dessert is Sericaia, a sort of egg cake with a sugared plum on the side. End with a good Portuguese espresso or a decaf which is equally good. I always ask for Descafeinado cheio pingado, which means decaf espresso, full (so slightly less strong) and with a few drops of milk. Enjoy!
