We started our tour of Belem in the morning, and saved our visit to Pasteis de Belem for breakfast. When you arrive, there are likely to be long lines on the street waiting to order the pastries. Just bypass the line and go directly inside. There are several rooms with tables and table service, but you may have to hover over someone who is getting ready to leave so you can get a table. It is worth sitting down to enjoy the custard tarts. They are served warm from the oven. There are also loads of other pastries to try. The custard tarts here are the best I tasted while in Lisbon. We then walked to the monestary across the street, to the Tower of Belem on the waterfront, and around other Belem sites. It is definitely worth the trip for these tarts.

I'm sure the custard tarts are delicious... However there was a huge queue to pay and then a huge second queue to get your order.. A victim if its own success! So we have up and went to a lovely patisserie down the road.

The original natas are okay but the location is very loud because it holds over 400 seats and it is a must-do for every tourist in Lisbon. It gets very crowded and the waiters try to get as many people in the location as possible. So if you don’t order for 15min the waiter already asks you kindly if you want to pay. I also found less known places which served better Natas. It’s only good to see how the original custard tarts from Lisbon taste.
Prices are very fair though.

The place to try Genuine Portuguese de nata ( custard tart), dont bother with other places, as this is the one and only place to taste a rich and genuine local made de nata
