Typical and always fresh made. A "must" if you are in Lisbon. There are many other places where you can get very good pasteis de Belem (custard pies) but the original is always the original.

We were told that it was the birth place of the Portuguese custard tart. We went for a snack between breakfast and lunch.

Queue was long for take away. We wanted to sit down and enjoy and so went in. You just cannot imagine how big the inside is like. You sure can get a table anytime. We finally chose to sit at a quiet section with only around 10 tables and our table overlooked the street. The decoration was nice with the traditional blue tiles.

There were 2 servers for our section. The younger one was efficient and friendly. We were skeptical about famous tourist food and only order one tart each with tea. The server highlighted that we could add cinnamon and sugar if we like. We tried. It turned out to be the best Portuguese custard tart we have ever had. Even though it is another hour to lunch, we order another round.

We like it. Must go!!!

Pasteis de Belem are the best pastries in the world, and they are only made here. You can eat two each time and nobody will blame you for that. At the exit you can take packs of 6? For the way home...Lisbon gem right next to the one of the most beautiful church's in the world "mosteiro dos jeronimos".

Located nearby the monastery of Jeronimos, produce the emblematical Lisbon cake / the Belem custard tart.
Try as locals use to do - a short black coffee along the Belem custard tart with a dash of cinnamon powder on top.
The interior of the coffee shop is very elegant with remarkable Portuguese tiles.
