“A must”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 5, 2012

No more words, just dont miss this excellent bakery, the pasteis are the best in town, in lisbon, in portugal and whatsoever.. there was no line when we were there (october), but believe me if there is one.. just do it.. a Pasteis costs around EUR 1,05 and they are totally fresh!

Dont miss it.. these is one of the places that regardless of its fame and lot of tourist you still need to go, visit and try

“A Lisbon institution”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 4, 2012

This large cafe is the home of the amazing, eponymous "custard tarts" or Pasteis de Belem. They are an essential taste of Lisbon and this is the best place to try them. Very crispy, flaky pastry with rich, creamy creme anglais. If you are in Belem then you have to visit!

“Get In My Belly”

Such a great looking diner feeling pastry house. Come prepared with your Portuguese. I asked for a croissant and wasn't able to translate the word. So instead I ate extra pastelarias!!!

“These little pies are awesome!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012

We were on a Vantage tour so we did not actually stop here and eat. But we did buy some of the delicious little special pastries to take away. They are to die for! A must have!!!

The tour guide told us that this is a very tight kept secret recipe -- only three chefs know it at one time and they do not travel anywhere together! Not sure if that's actually true but the pastries are wonderful.

“So much more than it looks...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012

We went here following a recommendation from a friend, it was massively busy, but like a rabbit warren! Keep following the corridors and you'll go from one room to another to another - all full of tables! Although it doesn't look like much from the outside the inside is huge. Make sure you visit the kitchen to see the yummy pastries being made. Savoury pastries were OK but the highlight were the warm pasteis de nata (custard tarts) sprinkled with cinnamon and icing sugar. Waiters were busy but helpful. The queue for the take-out counter was right along the street, but the waiters were bringing bags to people at tables as part of their order, so take a much needed break and grab a pasteis de nata (or two!) whilst waiting for your order.
