Don't be daunted by the line, it moves very quickly. The pastéis were freshly baked, still warm and good but nothing to write home about. One of those "must do" things to do in Belém.

This sweet experience is a must in Lisbon. We didn t really try other Pastei, but these definitely worth their experience. This place is usually crowded (not so much space to relax on a table), so we just took some take away Pasteis and some baked salty snacks, which were very tasty as well. The creamy Pasteis are very tasty when eaten warm with sugar and cinnamon. And their price is definitely reasonable. For 12 Pasteis, 2 quiche and a piece of pizza we paid around 18 euros. In addition, it is definitely a beautiful neighborhood to visit.

It's true that you can find a pasteis de nata all over Lisbon, but these are truly superb. My husband and I each ate one, then went back for another! Definitely try it!

Going to Lisbon and not trying the authentic "pastel de Belém" is like going to Italy and not having gelato or going to Switzerland and not having chocolate.
Yes, there are "pastéis de nata" all over Portugal BUT the original pastel de Belém can only be found here (it is trademarked) and, in my opinion, tastes better.
I went in the middle of the afternoon and just walked right in to easily find a table for two. If there's no line just keep walking inside because they have many rooms.
This is a must and it is so delicious!

I really can't think why it was selected as the best place to eat in Lisbon. It's just about some pastries which you can find almost anywhere in Lisbon (maybe better here but not worth the queue). On the other hand eating in Lisbon is about fish and seafood, not about cakes, to me ! And don't think I don't like cakes !
