The apartment is in a great location right in the middle of Alfama with lovely views towards the river Tagus. It has an unusual layout but we found it a perfect size for the two of us.I really liked the indoor area of the roof terrace where it was pleasant to sit and enjoy the view when it wasn't warm enough to sit out on a Spring evening.
Very nice apartment with all the facilities you need.
Lovely roof terrace.
Great location amongst the narrow winding streets.
Management team very helpful.
This is a lovely apartment in the heart of the very old and traditional Alfama district.
The upsides are the very nice large terrace with great views over the district and the river, and the location which is right in amongst the narrow alleyways of Alfama with lovely little restaurants everywhere. It is about a fifteen minute walk from the centre of Lisbon.
You need to be warned however that this would not suit people with any sort of mobility difficulties. The apartment is on the second floor and there is no lift. You get to it up up a very steep and narrow staircase. The ceilings are also very low and if you don't stoop you will bump your head on the door frames and beams. There is also no privacy on the terrace. Neighbours' windows open onto it at foot level, and another neighbours' balcony is about two metres away directly in front of you. If none of that worries you, you will love it. It didn't worry us at all, and we felt that it all added to the charm and character of the place.
Booked this apartment solely for the use of the terrace after sightseeing but when we arrived, found out that June is the festival month for St Antony! The apartment is right in the thick of it, so if you wanted a quiet time, try somewhere else than Alfama. We loved just falling out of the front door and being in the weekend street parties. The team managing the apartment were first class, nothing was too much trouble and the apartment itself was all that was to be expected - well equipped, clean and tidy
Be aware : 1) Alfama is very hilly with little traffic - you have to walk up & down slopes everywhere so good footwear is essential; 2) The main bed in the apartment is 5 foot wide in a 5 foot 2 inch wide bedroom
If you want to enjoy the feel of Alfama this is a wonderful pick. You are right within walking distance to so many of the cultures. e felt very safe going out at any time. The beds were extremely comfortable , and the view on the top deck was spectacular.
If you've been won over by the many benefits of self catering and like the atmosphere of Al Fama, this is a great place to stay. Location is great - easy walking distance to Santa Apollonia metro and not much further to the main stations. There is a bakery virtually next door and a mini market 2 mins walk away for essential provisions. Lots of good, reasonably priced restaurants nearby mean there is no real need to cook but all the facilities are there if you want to. The flat is very well equipped and the owners are on hand with travel advice, taxi transfers and general assistance. The final word has to go to the flat's terrace with spectacular views of the Tagus and its river traffic - who can put a price on drinks there as the sun goes down reflecting on a day in the wonderful city of Lisbon?
