“Expensive, small portions. Excellent staff.”
Reviewed December 28, 2012

Dined here on a November evening, 2012. The staff were very friendly, well mannered and organised (although it was very quiet when we started - busy by the end). Restaurant was clean, décor was suitable, although lighting a bit bright.

The quality of the food was good. But the portions were quite small. We both had a full course - around 30 euro per person. But before we even left the place, we were already thinking "wow, still hungry". So just be careful when going for the set menu - it may not be big enough.

Probably a better meal per price during lunchtime. But for the evening, aim to spend 30-40 per person.

“Great Service / Great Fish”

Really friendly and high quality food. Try the octopus balls! Wine-by-the-glass could be better (choose better quality and offer more selection)

“Wonderful !”
Reviewed August 13, 2012

We were not sure to really want to eat japanese here in Portugal but finally, all the family was super happy ! The food is fresh, people are very nice (we are french and don't speak a word of portugese, they explained everything with a smile). It's not the cheapest place in town (~70€ for 3) but it DEFINITIVELY worth it.

“A corner of authentic Japan in Lisboa”
Reviewed August 4, 2012

As you open the door of Novo Bonsai, you'll start asking yourself if Lisboa is in Portugal or in Japan...
The kind staff is Japanese and very welcoming always caring for your attentions. The restaurant is very nice in traditional Japanese style. It is possible to choose among a great variety of dishes which you may not find so easily such as Takoyaki, Yakitori, Shabu Shabu and many others. I had a great dinner with Japanese friends starting with an incredible Maguro no tataki then Takoyaki, a delicious Clams soup and great mixed sushi with cold sake; everything served in nice plates. The next day I returned to have lunch and try some other dishes such as Chirashi. Wonderful experience. Highly recommended.

“Phenomenal-quality authentic Japonese food”
Reviewed April 20, 2012

The best Japanese food I have ever had - beautiful atmosphere and perfect service. The takoyaki and California rolls were amazing!

Try one of the traditional Japanese low tables and cushions in the private booths!
