My friend and I rented an apartment in alfama for a week and we were lucky enough to be one block down from cultura portuguesa cafe. During our 6 day stay in alfama i don't think there was any day that we didn't visit the cafe atleast 2-3 times. Either for coffee and breakfast, or for an amazing steak sandwich to end our day of eating, the entire experience was perfect.
The owner, pedro, is a wealth of information not only about lisbon but especially about alfama, since he grew up there, he's an excellent tour guide. We took a walking tour with him, and it was 2 hours of some great information and a really enjoyable walking tour of alfama. Well worth the money. The cafe is a great local find, and you'd be a fool to pass up the opportunity to eat here and enjoy the local warmth and hospitality of a true local family. Enjoy. cheers.
