My friend and I rented an apartment in alfama for a week and we were lucky enough to be one block down from cultura portuguesa cafe. During our 6 day stay in alfama i don't think there was any day that we didn't visit the cafe atleast 2-3 times. Either for coffee and breakfast, or for an amazing steak sandwich to end our day of eating, the entire experience was perfect.
The owner, pedro, is a wealth of information not only about lisbon but especially about alfama, since he grew up there, he's an excellent tour guide. We took a walking tour with him, and it was 2 hours of some great information and a really enjoyable walking tour of alfama. Well worth the money. The cafe is a great local find, and you'd be a fool to pass up the opportunity to eat here and enjoy the local warmth and hospitality of a true local family. Enjoy. cheers.

I wonder what means tourist trap! since if you pay attention, there is no single word in English abroad (2 major slates with all that you can find inside the café ) to unlike stores in historic areas, and could have also noticed that the values are not for tourists, are to us, people of the neighborhood. The food is not what you expected? sorry, but we, people of the neighborhood eat "normal" food, like my mother makes at the Café. But one thing I will agree with you ... you should first read the other reviews carefully, because as I repeat here a few times ... IS A SIMPLE NEIGHBORHOOD CAFÉ . Where do the people in the neighborhood! Simple! Only a small detail ... plus owner of this space im one of the few Concierge professionals that still exist ... so I say to you, if it's a dream someone gives attention to our opinions, at least try to make the homework first ... see that helps.

This place was great! I got the Prato de dia which included a large plate of potatoes and pork, a drink, and espresso all for 7,50 euro! The food was amazing. The atmosphere is so relaxing and welcoming. Pedro, the owner, is very helpful and friendly. This is a true must visit while in Lisbon.

We (me and my girlfriend) have been to cultura portuguesa cafe for a number of days to enjoy breakfast. The cultura portuguesa cafe was only opened a day and we had no real expectations.

We learned that the host was really kind and even spoke English very well (not a common thing in Lissbon) The choice for breakfast was enough for us ( croissants, buns, juice and sweet treats) and the coffee is very good. Their prices are a steal and can't be compared to the touristic area's.

We only learned the last day that the owner is in fact also a hotel concierge and tour guide and proofed to be a source of good information.

All in all we recommend this cozy nice spot in the best part of town (Alfama)
