We booked that inexpensive location for the start of our Portugal vacation. It's absolutely centrally located, around the corner is one of the main squares of Lisbon.
The rooms are o.k., a bit outdated though. The floor uneven, the bathroom could use some remodeling. But it was clean. And for a two-star location in Portugal, it was absolutely good value. It's not a Hilton, so your expectations have to be different than that.
The breakfast was o.k., not fancy. But it was certainly enough food available and they refilled, once something was gone, immediately.
The lady at the front desk was very helpful. She not only made some good recommendations for a restaurant in the Bairo Alto, but she also called us a taxi upon our leave, which did not overcharge us - besides this time they always ripped us off.
If I am on a budget trip to Lisbon, I'd book this hotel again.

This is a lovely hotel in a great location for all the major sights. The location makes it easy to travel around the city. The rooms are average in size but very clean. Breakfast is fairly basic. The staff are wonderful , friendly and helpful. The easiest way to get here from the airport is on the aerobus to Rossio. From Rossio square it's only 2 or 3 minutes walk to the hotel. Take the bus back to the airport if you are flying with easy jet as you need to go to terminal 2 for departures and we wasted ages trying to find this out when we arrived at the airport by Metro! Also there is a really great restaurant round the corner from the hotel . It's the one beside the exit from the underground car park and beside the bank in praca da figueira . The food is great and prices are very reasonable . Two meals , bottle of wine and four large beers was only 40 euros.

Room Tip: Rooms on fourth floor have great views over the city and the convento do carmo or over the castle at...

We (couple without kids) used this hotel for a 3 day trip to Lissabon, and we were happy with it. We payed 70 € (August) including breakfast.
Located very central, but in a street very close to start/end point of line 28, one of Lissabon's attractions. The area around seems to be somehow 'criminal' at first, but nothing happened and finally we felt nearly safe - though drugs (haschisch, cocaine...) were offered day and night on the streets around. But this happens in the whole area around Rossio.
The hotel has friendly stuff and we got a quiet room as we wished when we made reservation. by HRS. Breakfast was better than expected with good coffee and jummy cake. Our room was small and a little bit outdated and room and bathroom need a renovation, but clean and more than only acceptable.
Though late checkout (3 pm) was promised at booking, we had to checkout at 12 pm. This was not a problem for us.
I would recommend this hotel for couples and solos, that are a little bit sportive, because the elevator is located in the first floor - you have to use one stair to the reception and another one to reach the elevator.
I wouldn't recommend it to families with small kids, because the staircase is steep and only equipped with normal railing. The shortest way to the reception desk from the 5th floor is only 15 meters....

A simple and clean hotel in prime location, room, bathroom and beds ok, view on backyard not spectacular but quiet, the perfect base to explore Lisbon by public transport or hiking. It's near Praca do Figueiras and Rossio, so very close to Rua Augusta shopping and Elevador Santa Justa. All you need really, since you won't be spending much time in your room. There's an elevator from the first floor onwards, so be prepared to carry your luggage up 2 flights of stairs first.
The breakfast seems OK at first glance, but then you discover they don't serve real coffee but the instant variety (in Portugal, now that's sinful!) the muslis are very sugary and the "juice" is dishwasher liquid with sugar. You can still get something out of it, at least they have teabags and good coffee can be found on every corner.
There are a few acceptable, if basic restaurants right next to the hotel, and good restaurants in abundance a bit further away.
The A/C was working and absolutely essential in summer.
The electrico 28 stops at Martim Moniz (30 second walk), and there are great metro connections at Rossio et al.
Not far from the hotel, there are a few amateur hookers waiting for johns, but you won't notice them if you don't try or walk the streets repeatedly as an unaccompanied male. But then, you will also be offered cocaine on a daily basis in the street, but it's no hassle at all if you simply decline.
We will certainly be back at the Alcobia.

This is a very central location, surroundings are not very pleasant. Limited breakfast, beds and bath require renovation. Still the price somehow fits to what you get. I would not want to return but if you just want to sleep centrally....

During a family holiday on the Algarve, we wanted to escape for a couple of nights and visit Lisbon. We found this hotel on the internet and were delighted with its location and even more so when we saw the view of the castle from room 501. Helpful staff and good breakfasts made it a great sightseeing base.
Yes, the street was seedy but the surrounding area was great. Yes, the lift was small and only ran from the first floor but, unlike some previous reviewers, we weren't expecting luxury and this hotel amply served our needs with comfortable beds, a clean room and all the basic facilities.
A good budget hotel in a central position.

We stayed in this hotel for three nights in May. The room was basic, clean, and quiet and the front desk reasonably helpful. Apparently, there are a few rooms with superb castle views; ours was certainly not one of them despite the fact that we requested a room with a castle view.

This street is totally seedy, the view from our room was deplorable, and the markets in the surrounding area a bit Third World. You have to walk up several steps to a different floor to get to the elevator. Wi-fi comes with a cost. There was an odor (smoke-like) that was apparent. The breakfast was ok, but why, oh why, do they serve tang. In Portugal, where oranges are delicious and plentiful, watery tang should not be served anywhere.

I fear that my feelings about Lisbon were really impacted by my stay at this hotel, which is certainly overrated. Rick Steves should delete it from his guidebook. Lisbon is too lovely of a spot to waste a minute in a seedy neighborhood. Think again....
