We stayed there for three nights. Location is superb. Rooms are clean. Stay on a higher floor so you can get a view. Check out the bar on the top floor. They could do something more with the breakfasts. Staff is courteous. I was happy

This small hotel is a gem located in the center of the old city of Lisbon. Friendly staff. Pleasant rooms that look out over a cobblestone square dedicated to a poet, not a General. Our rooms were clean and comfortable. If you are fortunate you will be there when the square is full of dancing locals. Tiles decorate nearby buildings. The roof terrace is a highlight. It is a great spot for a drink and a light dinner. It overlooks the rooftops of the nearby city and the Tagus River. My wife and I began our trip through Iberia at the Bairro Alto and when we returned a month later we were greeted by our names as we got out of the taxi. It is the place we would choose if we return to Lisbon.

My sister and I recently stayed at the Bairro Hotel for 3 nights. The hotel is bang in the middle of all the action so restaurants/ bars/ shops are in within walking distance. The hotel is stunning, we had a lovely room and the staff were really attentive and went out of their way to do anything for us. The rooftop bar is beautiful and has one of the best views of Lisbon. The only thing I would say is that the drinks there are quite expensive ( 12 euros for a cocktail) and also the bar is open to the public as well as guests. In my opinion I feel that guests should be able to book a table at the bar as there were several occasions when we were turned away and had an hours wait for a seat.

If you are looking for a good restaurants ask the guys on reception as they will direct you to the local restaurants not the tourist attractions ( in the square the locals grab you and try to drag you into their establishments) also it is defiantly worth doing a tour with a company called Viator ( we got a 3.5 hour tour with food, wine, coffee, cake and beer for £25) The tour guide was lovely and what should have been a 3 hour tour turned into 7 hours as we were all having such a fabulous time.

The nightlife can be slightly Magaluf style however if you venture out of Bairro you can visit some lovely little Portuguese family run restaurants .The staff also sing faro music for you which is such a great experience. I will not be returning to Lisbon as I want to visit other parts of Europe however this is certainly a trip I will never forget.

Room Tip: Just note that the rooms that state they have a balcony don't - you cant sit on them.

Well-maintained property with solicitous, professional staff at the intersection of Lisbon's Chiado, Bairro Alto, and Baixa neighborhoods. Great terrace bar with a view of the river, though this means one of the two small elevators can be jammed with revelers during the evenings, though that is somewhat counteracted by the quality of the caipirinhas at said terrace bar. Decent fitness room and good restaurant, but somewhat lacking in public/lobby space.

Any European hotel holding a five-star ranking and belonging to the Leading Hotels of the World System would make any demanding traveller tranquil in relation to a smooth and comfortable stay.
Much to my disappointment, this was not the case in my recent and first (and last) stay at this hotel. Everything is small - rooms, public areas, restaurant, roof bar and service. Simply there is no lobby. If you have to wait for someone at the hotel, better to sit in one of the benches at the facing Camões Square, since in the entire reception area there are only two chairs. The so called "spetacular" roof bar, object of many self eulogies in the hotel site, is so small that in a stay of 5 days, I was never able to sit there, always full of nor-residents.

Room Tip: Move to another 5 star in Lisbon!

Dear Mr. Sergio A,

Thank you so much for sharing your comments with other travellers.

All in all, we are very sorry for not met your overall expectations and although it is very disruptive to all my team struggling every day with their commitment to acknowledge this evaluation I have to admit we must always be prepared to receive such negative feedback.

Most of all, me and my team do regret the fact we were not able to accomplish our biggest goal: to deliver you a good level of service and make you happy about your choice.

I was here, during your entire stay and we crossed each other many, many times and I admit I had no idea your thoughts towards the Bairro Alto Hotel. For sure for a 5 day stay we could have done something better if you had let us know...But please know that we do are a 5 star hotel (as per portuguese and international standards...and overall apreciation of thousands of guests since we opened in 2005), and we do are a proud member of The Leading Hotels of the World.

Perhaps you were seeking another type of hotel and this type of "petit/historical/boutique" and charm hotel is not your style.

Kind regards,

Jorge Cosme

Ideally located close to good shopping, eating areas and provides excellent views in Lisbon(Close to famous "Lisbon Elevator').Very friendly and always helpful staff.Breakfast is divine.Close to public transport and sightseeing terminals.

Room Tip: Staff operate from room close to #202,which is annoyingly noisy at times

This elegant hotel is on the edge of the shopping and clubbing areas of Lisbon. The staff without exception are helpful and friendly, treating guests like family. The rooms are large and comfortable. A highlight is the rooftop bar which looks over the Tagus. Its Mojito is a particular highlight. The hotel is adjacent to the 82 tram which runs to the castello area. Down the road is the15 tram to Belem.

Dear Sir,

Thank you so much for your kind words.

For other travellers: please notice the tram number is the #28 and not the #82 (with a stop nextdoor to the hotel). All the information is great! Thank you for sharing it.
