Great area to spend the day! One can visit the Torre Belem, the Monument of Discoveries, and the Cathedral. They are splendid buildings, so even if you dont go inside it is worth the visit. I would also recommend to visit the Pasteis de Belem, which has a very yummy tart!

“Beautiful part of Lisbon”
Reviewed July 27, 2013 via mobile

Catch the 728 which goes along th coast. Easy to get to. The best portuguese tarts can be found here. Bring a hat if its sunny, there's not much shelter along the coastal walkway to the tower. Electricity museum was great as well if youre a nerd.

“Modern seaside”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

If you pay a visit to the Monumento do Descobrimento and Torre de Belém you will see people walking, riding their bikes, jogging and sitting by the terrace of a restaurante/café, facing the Tejo River. Beautiful and restful place to be. It has adapted to the modern life, contrasting the historical monuments there.

“Outstanding exterior”
Reviewed July 25, 2013

Can get to it via the train to Cascais (3 stops from Cais do Sodre station). Entrance is free with the Lisboa Card.

There is not much to see inside. The real beauty of the Tower is in the exterior decoration. It is adorned with rope carved in stone and has many Moorish-style watchtowers. There is a statue of the Virgin and Child and with a little imagination you can picture a long away explorer like Vasco da Gama being comforted by sight of it upon his return. The views from the top of the tower are well worth the challenging climb up a very narrow staircase. They use a stopégo light system and if it is busy, it can take some time to go up and get down. All part of the fun!

“great historical sites”
Reviewed July 24, 2013

The Torre Belem, the Monument of Discoveries, and the Cathedral are all located in this area. The walk along the Tagus river between the sites was nice and safe. Very calm and peaceful area.
