“Very busy on Sundays”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

Visited here on Sunday and it was very busy - especially the tower - it was bedlem only one set of spiral stairs and there was queing all the way up and down - not for anyone with limited moblility... or anyone with large backpacks. Yes there is a good view from the top but the descent is quiet difficult

“Lots to see”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

The Monastery dos Jeronimos, the naval museum, the tour of Belem and many more things of interest. Avoid Sundays as it is very busy.

“Castle in Miniature”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Built in the 16th century this little fort is a splendid example of Manueline architecture (looks like a beautiful wedding cake) originally set out as a harbor defense. Every time I visit Lisbon I always have to go and pay a visit to Belem Tower. The fort is quite small as fortifications go but it has a lot going for it in beauty. It's almost as if the original architect was designing a summer place for the royals instead of a fort. Easy to get to and right on the way to Estoril from Lisbon, probably one of the most beautiful drives in Portugal.

“Interesting”

Take the 15 tram to Belem and descend at the Monastaire de Jeronimies which is an amazing place. Then walk through the garden to the riverside and along to the Discovery monument and then on to the Belem Tower - both worth visiting. Then enjoy a drink and a bit to eat at the cafe next to the museum.

“Must see in Lisbon”
Reviewed March 16, 2013

Belem is a really cool place to visit, where you can get a feeling of how it was years and years ago. If you are either claustrophobic or afraid of heights, I don't think it's the best place to visit. Going up the stairs to the top of the tower isn't my idea of fun. A bunch of people packed on a small stair made of stone hundreds of years ago. However, once you get up there it's worth it.
