“a mission to get there, enjoyed it but wouldn't rush back”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

I would say the Belem Castle is a "must see" attraction and for that reason I am happy to have visited. However we found the tram 15 from Praca do commercio a real pain. Not on time and very very over crowded. Also the tram stopped half way there and we had to vacate due to an accident. However as we were not in a rush we took our time, sat in a local cafe and discovered another route. The buses took us there in the end. The bus stop to actual Belem tower is a good 20 mins walk, albeit a nice scenic stroll along the waterfront with great views of the bridge and Christ statue. The castle itself is quite cute, we didn't bother to pay to go inside or up as we had already seen great views from going up the christ statue.

Worth a visit if you have time, but allow for a few transport hitches and take your time to get there and back just in case.

“Tower at Sunset”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We checked out the tower just before dark. We didn't go inside but the view of it and the surrounding area was worth the trip. In Belem, there are a plethora of things to see anyway. The Tower is definitely worth taking a picture of and it's a good vantage point for checking out the shore and other nearby monuments.

“Great day trip and (mostly free!)”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

We went to Belem on a sunday, when many attractions and museums are free (before 2 pm). We enjoyed st. Georges's castle, the Maritime museum, the contemporary art museum and the discovery Monument. We ate a brief lunch in the cafeteria, adjoining the Maritime Museum. The food was just OK. Another small disappointment was that the film, highlighting much of Lisbon, is no longer at the Discovery Monument. We were told that the contract finished and wasn't renewed. Too bad as it sounded very helpful and interesting to the visitors. However, the castle, museums and monument were great.
