Owner description: This is the oldest botanical garden in the country, which lost many specimens to Napoleon's invasion in the 1800s. Great views of Belem.

“Poor!”
Reviewed September 24, 2012

In very poor condition, needs lots of attention. In spite of the minimal entry fee not worth the effort for what you will see and learn.

“Okay but we've seen better.”
Reviewed August 29, 2012

It was a very hot day and the best was the toilet block with cold water and the second best was a tap water (faucet) I found down at the other end to refresh myself - LOL.
In all honesty, it's a nice selection of plants but the place was smaller than I had imagined but a welcome break from the busy streets around.

“Not exciting, but faded glamour”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

Sad that this garden has fallen from grace, but worth a lot more than the paltry 1.50 they charge to get in. No wonder they can't afford upkeep! But god for an hour's tranquil stroll among streams and trees, and an enclosed butterfly garden where you can see butterflies mating, crysalids growing, and good explanations - all up close enough and low enough for children to enjoy.

“What once must have been splendid”
Reviewed August 1, 2012

Whilst i Belem we toured the Jardim Botanico Tropical, shame this seemed so run down and sorely in need of attention. However at only 2 euros and 1 euro for our senior it may be better earlier in the summer when there maybe some flowering shrubs to add colour. Look our for the African Heads adorning gate columns, no explanation for these which intrigued us.

We took a map but were unable to locate the shop or toilet facilities so cannot comment on these.

“A little oasis in Lisbon”
Reviewed June 21, 2012

Lisbon’s Jardim Botânico is a small oasis and especially on warm days offers the perfect opportunity to get away from the heat and to enjoy the shade of this beautiful park. It is located in the Principe Real area so it is within walking distance from the main tourist attractions. I can definitely advise anyone that visits Lisbon to go here, because it is unlike any botanical garden I have ever seen.
