“The saddest meal we ever had”
Reviewed June 19, 2014

Group of us entered this place at the centre of Lisbon attracted by cozy interior and hoping to finish a wonderful with equally wonderful food. Sadly what we saw in front of us on the table was beyond imaginable.

I have to admit that we had some doubts when waitress explained that restaurant concept was 'tined food' and announced that none of the dishes on the menu were prepared fresh. However we decided to give it a try and hoped for something different yet delicious. When plates were served our group of five was almost in tears - we got served a pile of tined chickpeas with tined fish with some black pepper on top. It all was just dumped on plates!

When we pointed out to the waitress that the food is not quite what we expected ( especially when paying 10 euros per plate ) instead of an apology we received quite drab and offended looks from staff. Needless to say nothing was excluded from the bill.

Please see photo attached for your own judgement, but I would advice to stick with wine and cured ham if you ever happen to wonder by this "gourmet cuisine".

“Cosy place, but the food is mediocre and the service is unacceptably slow”
Reviewed March 14, 2014

Vintage Mercearia Gourmet is a tiny place with a very cosy atmosphere, air conditioning and fado discreetly played in the background, potentially perfect for a light lunch. Too bad for the mediocre food and the irritatingly slow service. The dishes are quite simple, which is not necessarily a flaw, but some things are questionable, like the chips apparently coming from a bag rather than from the kitchen. As for the service, in our case it was exasperating: it took them ages to bring us a few cold snacks, like sandwiches and salads, though we were the only customers and nothing needed to be cooked. Besides, the dishes came out at very different times, so some of us had already finished their meal when some others hadn't eaten a bite yet.

“A wonderful, friendly place”
Reviewed December 8, 2013

On a sunday evening I stumbled uppon this gem. Fancy room layout with two tiny little floors under ground, but bright and warm. A bar with friendly staff, truly vintage foods hard to find elsewhere for purchase and a wonderful snack menue with a reasonable good table wine by the glass. A recommendation for the gourmet in search for a snack.

“Horrible and Disgraceful !!!”
Reviewed November 19, 2013

Absolutely Horrible and expensive ! meat "steak" is abhorrent (like meat kebab/fricadelle) served with cold potato chips ! vegetables are the cheapest trim (carrots, chickpeas..), ridiculous tiny squid on a slice of bread, very slow service, a tourist trap, absolutely go your way! Awful ! disgraceful !!
