My wife and i visited here in sept 2010 as a birthday treat for her. We loved the location and were given recommendations from a very friendly girl at the reception. This is the kind of hotel you never forget not only for its good location near the castle, but the very friendly service we received. Don't know if that girl we met is still working there, but hotels in Europe need more like her!!!

Olissipo castello is located just beneath the castello and has wonderfull views on the city of Lisbon. Steep climbing on foot could be difficult for older people, but the location is very quit. Very professional staff, welcoming and advising as much as you wish. Rooms are spacious and have wonderful views from great terraces ( ask for it). There are some minor flows which need to be updated. On the general side, Lisbon and certainly the neighbourhood of the hotel have become dirty with lots of garbage on the street. The economical problems are visible on the streets

Room Tip: asf for room with terrrace

Overall, very nice 5-night stay in this hotel. All my queries at booking were satisfied. Bedroom size was functional and good, wi-fi worked perfectly, hot water in the shower without having to wait for five minutes. Very relaxed yet professional atmosphere, smiling and helpful staff. The location is good - very quiet area, but people walking with difficulty should avoid this all area, unless you take a taxi, not exensive at all.

In the US, you would say it is a boutique hotel, small but with attention to the decoration and details. I read some comments about the difficulty of finding the hotel. Actually it is not that bad, you can either take the tramway that will drop you 300ft from the hotel or you can walk up the hill (15 minutes from Baixa) following the tramway tracks.

The rooms are large and beautifully decorated. We had a terrasse/balcony even larger than the room with a beautiful view on part of Lisbon.

The service is excellent and the employees at the reception take time to advise you on sightseeing and help you find good restaurant. The hill where the hotel and the castle are located, is probably the best place to stay in Lisbon as it is one of the few areas that survived the earthquake, so you are in a really old neighborhood.

Room Tip: Take a room with a balcony, it is a little more expensive but it is worth it

Sorry to come back to it but those threadbare towels really do let down an otherwise excellent hotel ....how strange that the management misses such a silly fault that could be rectified easily at such a low cost. The location is superb, with easy access to lots of interesting little restaurants and bars in a very historic and somewhat edgy part of Lisbon, but strolling about in the evenings is very pleasant and not in the least threatening. The rooms are spacious and it really is worth getting one with a balcony even in November - the views are great. Housekeeping standards are very good and the staff very helpful and attentive. Finding a table at breakfast is a bit of a lottery and it is difficult to understand why it is so difficult to match the number of guests to the tables available, but the food is good with plenty of variety.
Lisbon is generally very friendly but beware the trip on the 28 tram, a supposed highlight of a visit. Our friend was the victim of an attempted pickpocketing, but they picked the wrong bloke and they were lucky to escape, but sadly no-one turned a hair not least the driver, which suggests that such events are not uncommon. On the other hand step forward the taxi drivers of Lisbon for "five stars". Cabs are plentiful, quick and very cheap, and if like us there are four of you, then it is very good value to use them .....and they don't try to pick your pockets!!

Room Tip: 206 or 207.
