On arrival we were met by the most pleasant and helpful hotel staff on our recent trip to Lisbon. The hotel was of the smaller dimensions but the rooms were very well set out. Our room although overlooking the square was very quiet and we slept well. The tour buses were very handy for a day trip of the city and tram number 8 was nearby.

Room Tip: We were on the top floor on the corner overlooking the square and main thoroughfare.

First time in Lisboa, we got a good deal on this hotel--turns out it is on a very busy plaza, Praça da Figueira, right at the tram and bus stops, which is good or bad depending on your perspective. Very interesting decor--the public spaces have rounded burnished pewter-looking organic columns, mixed with metallic walls, interesting lighting. Projectors beam shifting patterns of leaves over the walls and floors... Curvaceous furniture, dark corridors with organic-feeling curves... A lovely small spa, which was very relaxing for massage, steam room, and dry sauna. Small but very pleasant. Very helpful and attentive staff. Two complaints: if you are sensitive, the rooms facing the plaza are noisy, even if they have double-paned windows. I asked for a change and was upgraded to a wonderful room--much more spacious and quiet. Second complaint--too often, form doesn't follow function and design trumps function in some of the furniture arrangements. Would go back, however.

Room Tip: Be sure to ask for a quiet room on the side--not facing the plaza. The staff will say the rooms are all quiet, but they have a different perspective on "quiet." Best to upgrade to a large room.

I booked this hotel because of its central location and its spa. Both criteria have been in theory being met, but only one was worth it: the spa.
The first thing to observe is the absence of appropriate phonic insulation so you “benefit” from a quite noisy night live. The rooms are not cleaned up until late in the afternoon or even in the evening. The team is quite cheap and ask you to pay the entire stay upfront – something that isn’t requested elsewhere in Europe!
The hotel team, beside the spa and the reception is rather unfriendly and cheap: at breakfast, you receive your bill even before sitting down. Despite a numerous staff up to 4 people!!! for the breakfast service (for as many tables), it takes up to 20 minutes to clean up tables, the staff being busy in having their own breakfast taken amongst the served dishes. The breakfast buffet is identical every day and really minimally average… not like a 4 star hotel one.
The rooms now: really small, the on-line pictures look nicer than in reality. The complimentary coffee machine is not being refilled during your stay: wrong place to save money! The slippers are of poor quality and uncomfortable. The bath room supplies are not being refilled either, unless you ask for it. As said you benefit from all the noise of the town and more embarrassing from the other rooms. Other equipment problems: except two Portuguese channels no TV; iPod, IPhone docking station didn’t work. Cleanness is average; also here there is room for improvement. No special attention for guests: you don’t feel welcomed here!
But the worst is the restaurant, not because of the cuisine – which is OK, but because of the staff and the service. Clearly the staff is purposeless despite being quite numerous, more occupied by themselves than by taking care of clients. Really overprized compared to the offers you will find next to the hotel.
Booking has also being disappointing as the description was misleading (i.e. inclusion of breakfast) and misrepresenting the reality i.e. room description (only shower)

The location was perfect for us, very central to the Rossio station to get to Sintra, the electricos to the castle and to Belem are in front of the door. But our room was loud as a result, hearing the screeching sounds of ancient streetcars pass our corner room. The room was nice, spacious enough for 2 people with 1 suitcase each. There was a headrest for glasses, etc above the bed. It could have been 5cm higher to enable us to sit in bed comfortably. Staff was extremely pleasant and very helpful. If we return, it would be because of them.
