“Really nice looking train station”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

Yes, the architecture is something to behold. But in the end, it's just a trainstation. Take a picture and move on.
If you want to go to Sintra, this is the place to go.
Otherwise, you can simply marvel at the fact that a train station like this still exists smack-down in the middle of a busy XXIst century capital city.

“Unusual station”
Reviewed March 23, 2014

Our rented apartment overlooked Rossio railway station and it was a delight to see its unique art deco frontage, with filigree horseshoe shaped entrances, daily. It is only when you go inside to catch a train you realise the real station is two floors up and at right angles to the frontage on Rossio Square. It looks as if it might be – but Rossio isn’t the most important station in Lisbon. There are trains only as far as Sintra. There is however an excellent Portuguese craft/souvenir shop on the ground floor, whose helpful staff speak excellent English, and a Starbucks. There are other less ornate entrances, including the taxi stops, on the 2nd and 3rd floors where the road meets the rising Chiado hills
Note the staircase to the left of the main escalators. The risers are painted to display a mountain scene!
If you are catching a train (to Querluz Palace or Sintra maybe): note over 65’s travel half price, but only if they have a fresh or empty Viva Viagem card. Otherwise you have to purchase a card at the same time (0.50c). It cannot be combined with other tram/metro/bus travel in the area.

This station is one of the most importation stations in Lisbon, it is close to Rossio square. I went Sintra from there. It is a historical one.

With such a beautiful façade, this station literally begs to be visited.
While the interiors are less architecturally interesting, there's a very nice deck on the upper floor, where you can view most of the town, plus a nice Starbucks on the ground floor for a short snack and drink break.

“A beautiful facade”

I didn't take a train but just had a wander and a look. It's one of the best station buildings I've seen, on a par with Dakar and Helsinki.
