“Great small hotel in Lisbon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 8, 2013

This beautiful and adorable small B&B/hotel in the center of beautiful Barrio Alto is the best place to stay in Lisbon. Great and smart rooms with a great roof terrase with wiev. The hosts are so kind and service minded. Extremely fair price compared with the high quality and service. Highly recommendable!

It was our first trip to Portugal and Lisbon. My wife and I stayed at the Monte Belvedere for 3 nights and had a great time there. We were very well looked after! On first arriving off the plane from Toronto, we got to the hotel at about 10:30 am and were met by Vera who welcomed us, offered us morning breakfast (which we were not entitled to) and then sat down with us for an hour or so, gave us a good map and helped us plan our time in Lisbon. It was very good advice and we were able to see more of Lisbon (and Sintra, Cascais, etc) than we would otherwise have managed.

Our room was a superior room and was exactly like the pictures on the web. It was spotlessly clean, spacious and very comfortable. The roof top patio was great for the views, enjoying a snack during the day or a glass of wine in the evenings. There were also inexpensive beers and acomplimentary kettle and teas if you wanted them.

The hotel is located in a really nice neighbourhood with elegant buildings nearby. It is a 10 minute walk to the railway station at Cais de Sodre and a 15 minute walk to Rossio Station along a main street lined with cafes and with shops like Benetton, etc.

There are several staff on duty at the hotel. All of them were most helpful and friendly, including also Sergio and Jao. There were able to answer all of our tourist questions and managed a couple of dinner reservations for us.

It is a great place to stay, and we happily recommend it to others.

We stayed at their sister B&B (Casa do Bairro) and walked up the hill to have dinner. We first had vinho verde on the roof deck and then moved to the restaurant for a 5 course meal (almost a wine tasting). The food and service was excellent. The price (38 euros) was reasonable considering the food quality and wines. We had a wonderful experience and this was the highlight of our stay in Lisboa.

We really enjoyed our stay and would love to go back one day. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They spent a lot of time with us on all the things to do in Lisbon and went out of their way to book travel arrangements for us. The room accommodations were perfect. We enjoyed drinks on the terrace and the amazing view. The location is also ideal, as it is close to restaurants, shopping, site seeing and the metro. We decided to have dinner at the Monte Belvedere one night and it was awesome - a real taste of Portugal. The Monte Belvedere is professionally managed and impressive from the room decor to the breakfasts to the simple one day bulletins on what to do in Lisbon and area. Very cool place to stay! I highly recommend it.

We stayed here for 3 days following our cruise on Oceania. Less than 10 min drive from the dock. Guest house was extremely clean and quiet. Rooms are a comfortable size. Vera spent over 30 min with us the first day to explain the area and attractions; she was extremely accommodating, arranging a private tour with Andre at "About Lisbon" and taxi pick up to the airport. Daniel was just as accommodating during his PM watch who also served as our Maître 'd and waiter during our 5 course dinner with local wines. Recommend to anyone staying at the guesthouse to reserve a place for the dinner as soon as you arrive.

This is a wonderful, small hotel with a great roof top terrace where you can breakfast or have drinks and watch the river traffic. Rooms are fresh, clean and nicely decorated with big windows that open but also quiet air conditioning so you can choose.

The location is great – it is close to a tram 28 stop so you can get around easily, but it is also within walking distance of bohemian Bairro Alto district which had interesting shops and restaurants.

Best of all is the staff – they are really friendly and genuinely want you to enjoy your stay. We found the many small ‘extras’ they did for us to be quite amazing in today’s service-starved travel world; they made us feel very welcome. Many thanks to Vera, Sergio and Daniel for making our stay in Lisbon memorable and comfortable.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Deluxe room with a view of the River Tagus and gives you windows on the river side...

Some say it has the best view of Lisbon! From our panoramic restaurant where breakfast is served every morning for our guests, you will not be indifferent to the Cristo Rei embracing Lisbon, the river Tagus [Tejo], the 25th of April Bridge with lights showing where the Atlantic Ocean begins and also the Basilica da Estrela that stands out between the rooftops of Lapa… However, the main feature of Monte Belvedere by Shiadu is not simply its amazing view! Its 13 rooms, some of which with a magnificent view of the river Tagus , have all the comfort you need for an unforgettable stay and our dedicated staff will welcome you, making you feel as if you were at home. Every day you will enjoy our delicious home-made breakfast prepared just for you! Near Monte Belvedere by Shiadu you will find the Northwind Statue [Estatua do Adamastor] (fictional character created by Luis de Camoes, in his master works The Lusiadas). The higher part of Santa Catarina is one of the most beautiful places of Lisbon and only two steps away from the city buzz. With views over the river Tagus it is said that since the 17th Century this plateau, once known as Monte do Pico or Monte Belvedere, is famous because of its lookout point. According to legend throughout the 16th, 17th and 18th centuries, from here one could see the moving ships: this is why still today there is a proverbial saying that is: “Ver navios no Alto de Santa Catarina” [“Watching the ships from the top of Santa Catarina”).
