“Amazing!”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

First time in Lisbon and was so glad we chose to stay here - it was beautiful and comfortable and we felt very looked after. Did the walking tour that they organised which was great. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone going to Lisbon.

Casa Amora Guesthouse was a real treat in every way. I've been to Lisbon a number of times over the years, and have enjoyed watching the city really come into its own, retaining its traditional charm while developing a hip art, fashion, bar, and restaurant scene. In the past I have usually stayed in the Bairro Alto. While that neighborhood remains a great place to visit, it is also party central, and noise can be a major issue.

The Casa Amora's Principe Real neighborhood offers easy access to Lisbon's best shopping, dining, and nightlife, with the bonus of a guaranteed good night's sleep. The Jardim das Amoreiras, immediately adjacent to Casa Amora, is a great neighborhood park, offering lovely views of the Águas Livres Aqueduct and the wonderful Mãe d'Água reservoir (be sure to visit the interior.)

The guesthouse itself is a beautifully rehabilitated property and is very tastefully decorated, elegant but not precious or stuffy. The breakfast is both generous and delicious, a major contrast from what you might expect in most of southern Europe. Finally, the staff are charming and attentive. In most capital cities you'd pay a premium for such attention to detail.

The guesthouse is a very beautiful and lovely house near the station "Rato" of the yellow subway line. The living area and the rooms are very comfortably and nice. The breakfast is buffet style and offers cheese, ham, bread, scones, yoghurts, fresh fruits, juice, and selfmade quiches or tarts. There are tea or coffee making facilities in the kitchen and you can make yourself tea/coffee whenever you want for free.

John, the manager of the guesthouse, has been very helpful and gave us fantastic insider tips for sightseeing and dinner. - Thank you very much for that, John!

We loved our stay and really felt at home. I hope we can come to Lisbon again one day!

Room Tip: Try to get the room on the 1st floor. It is big and comfortable.

Location was easy, rooms were lovely, breakfast was delicious and the service was warm, friendly and beyond my hopes. Thoroughly enjoyed and would stay again. Felt like staying at a friend's house that takes good care of you but also respects your privacy.

Juan gave us great recommendations and took great care of us. Thank you!

We booked this place due to its great reviews and were pleased to agree with them. A very welcoming establishment with substantial thought given to getting right both the big and small items that make somewhere a great place to stay. Attractive décor throughout, good kitchen, fruit and chilled water from the fridge available all day, lovely breakfast, an honesty bar and great staff with a very positive and friendly attitude to their guests and able to provide good guidance as to what to see and how to get their. Would definitely book again if we are in Lisbon.

Room Tip: We had the front top floor room, it was very nicely presented, slightly odd integration of the bathr...

This was meant to be my first review for a hotel but I got lost with submitting it and just today I got aware that it did not reach the recipient. So, big sorry for the delay and apologies to Juan and Louis who have been so warm welcoming and helpful that made our stay in Lisbon so memorable. We've chosen this hotel by the rating in booking.com and by the name Casa Amora, because the reason for our trip to Lisbon was our 30th Anniversary of our wedding. We've spent four lovely days with our friends from Germany homing at this marvelous hotel, having the cosiness and luxury of special guests that our hosts surrounded us. The splendid all fresh breakfast in the morning with variety of choises, the always smiling energetic Nita who cooked heartedly and the fresh air of the patio and the small garden boosted us with energy for the whole day. Juan and Luis with their thoughtful and intelligent suggestions for sightseeing, restaurants and place to enjoy fado and the special attitude to us and every guest of the hotel made our time in Lisbon very exciting. To add the artfully decorated rooms with feeling of history and yet modern, the bright cleanliness, the quiet place in walking distance from the centre and close to metro, it makes Casa Amora perfect place to stay in Lisbon. Wishing Juan, Luis and all the staff to keep their devotion, lots of success, we hope to visit Lisbon again and recommend Casa Amora as the best place to feel the heart and soul of portugeese. We stayed here for 4 nights while in Lisbon and i have absolutely no complaints! this place is a rare gem with extremely comfortable and clean rooms, unbelievable food and fantastic staff and within walking distance of the centre and metro system. Upon arrival we where greeted by Juan who cannot do enough for you, he sat us down gave us drinks and explained a little about this guesthouse and did not stop there, he produced a map and wrote in detail areas that he recommended we visit, also good places to eat and those areas to avoid! He also gave us his number so that if we had any issues we could contact him and he would do his best to help us. There is not enough praise that i can give Juan and his team, if i am ever back in Lisbon i would stay here again :) It is the personal touch that counts, thanks for a great stay Juan and hope to see you again in the future :)

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Casa Amora is a typical building of Lisbon’s early twentieth century petite bourgeoisie, renovated in 2012, with a small outdoor patio for rest or meals and 5 bedrooms (all with bathroom). Each room pays homage to one of the great figures of Portuguese art (painting, music, literature, film) of the last century. The process of renewal and adaptation carefully kept all the decorative elements existing in the rooms (plaster) and exterior (tiles, balcony), introducing a color palette that contributes to a peaceful and relaxing environment. Casa Amora is located in one of the nicest and most central districts of Lisbon, Praça das Amoreiras. In this neighborhood, where the 18th century Aqueduct (that survived the great Lisbon earthquake of 1755) reaches and end, Casa Amora is neighbor to Water Museum (Museu da Mae de Agua) and the Vieira da Silva / Arpad Szenes museum. Residents and visitors have easy and direct access to the neighborhoods of antique shops (Rua de Sao Bento and Rua da Escola Politecnica), historic districts (Bairro Alto and Chiado), Avenida da Liberdade and its fashion shops as well as the shopping center Amoreiras, all at walking distance. ... more   less
