Povo was recommended by our B&B (Zuza) and we were not disappointed. Its on the "pink" street! From what was explained, this is a revitalized part of Lisbon. Had we not been told, would have never known. Its beautiful, full of restaurants, stores, and just a lively feel. Povo is a smaller restaurant so make reservations, as we did.

The tapas were delicious, prices were reasonable and the music was even better. Absolutely loved our manager, Vitor, who kept checking on us to ensure quality service! The young musician current at Povo is Mauricio Cordeiro. You need to google this guy….fantastic voice!

Really enjoyed our evening here!

We were keen to hear some live fado while in Lisbon, but anxious to avoid the venues that were essentially aimed at tourists. Even if they presented themselves otherwise. Our hotel recommended Povo, and booked it for us. We weren't disappointed. It is a small place - about a dozen tables. The tapas is big by Spanish standards, gargantuan by those of the UK. Four dishes were ample for the two of us, eaten with a good bottle of house wine.

Povo is devoted to bringing on new fado performers, part of the continuing reinvigoration of the medium after the tarnished political reputation that it had developed because some of the major singers were uncomfortably close to the Salazar dictatorship. Young singers are given a residency at Povo to develop their approach and repertoire, and a chance to record generally follows. The singer in residence while we were there was expressive and moving, with the right balance of emotion and humour - or so it seemed to non-Portuguese speakers... Imagine how sad we'd have been had to understood the words. The accompanying musicians were superb. The place was packed for the three sets that we heard over the several hours that we were there, the atmosphere very engaged with real listening to the songs and buzzing noise at other times. There were tourists there, of course, but the majority of the audience were from Lisbon. Thoroughly recommended.

Spent some time while waiting my party to arrive at South Station (Cais Sodre). Decent pricing and good menu. Liked their house wine as well. Recommended to stop by...

Our manager at Casa do Patio recommended Povo as one of her favorite places to eat and enjoy fado music. It was a great recommendation, we loved trying the different tapa's...a good way to taste Portugese food. The fado was beautiful. Our best dinner out in Portugal :)

We were recommended to Povo from the hotel and glad we went. We were a little apprehensive upon arrival because the restaurant is on a small side street with a few tables outside on the sidewalk and we were hoping for a view of the city with our meal. We are very glad we stayed. The service was incredible and all the staff were friendly, helpful and attentive. We enjoyed several items from the tapas menu - marinated olives, cold cod fish with chickpeas and onion, (the best) shrimp in a garlic and wine sauce, ham and cheese on toast (designer style) :-) Dessert was a heavenly chocolate mousse. I don't think you could go wrong with any of the choices. Everything was fresh, had wonderful flavour, and was great value for money. We had a bottle of wine, waters, 4-5 tapas, dessert and espresso and paid about 50€...not more. Music was not extra (some restaurants in Lisbon charge extra for the music).
The fado music started at 9:30pm and the singer (female) was phenomenal. Her style seemed to be a little more contemporary and was not as depressing as other fado music we heard.
Hint: the restaurant is not big and tables fill up fast for the fado.....reservations can be made up until the fado music starts and I would recommend to go around 8:30pm so that you can enjoy your meal before the music and then simply enjoy drinks.
