Certain expectations - justified or otherwise - come with a five star rating, and they certainly seem to be fulfilled when you walk in the front door - cosy leather armchairs in the lounge, art and sculpture around. There is free WiFi access in the public areas on the ground floor (apparently in the breakfast room downstairs as well, but I found the signal patchy), and speaking of breakfast there was an excellent selection and efficient service - the hotel seems popular with groups so if you're going for breakfast the same time they do you might find the buffet crowded.
We had a room on the top floor, so got a decent view towards the city centre and the room itself was adequate and functional but no bigger or more opulent than you'd find at a bog-standard 4* conference factory. The corridor carpets up on the top floor were in a terrible state, with stains and threadbare patches. This didn't bother us - we don't come to a hotel to inspect the carpets - but could leave a bad impression.
Location-wise the hotel is good - sufficiently out of town and on a side-street that it's not noisy at night, but with easy access to the city centre. Half an hour or so will see you at the Restauradores square on the edge of the city centre, but we found we got a lot of use out of our...Certain expectations - justified or otherwise - come with a five star rating, and they certainly seem to be fulfilled when you walk in the front door - cosy leather armchairs in the lounge, art and sculpture around. There are two supermarkets nearby - the El Corte Ingles shopping centre has a food court, and there's a Pingo Doce branch if you turn right out of the front door and walk downhill for a couple of minutes.More
