“Location, location!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 13, 2012 via mobile

We visited Lisbon around end of May and booked apartments in this hotel. Ww were really happy with the surroundings. The location of the hotel is just Superb. Everything is just steps away, railway station, metro station, tourist buses stop, regular buses, supermarket and all major attractions are within walking distances. Lots of nice restaurants, Hard Rock cafe, Mac Donalds all very nearby. Nice pleasant walks around. Really enjoyed being in the centre of everything. The apartments were clean and tidy and adequate. The roof top restaurant has some lovely views. The breakfast was ok. The staff though was not consistent. Some very helpful and some bordering on rude. Also they were not helpful in providing information about nearby places. The real grudge is though about the elevators. One of them never worked during our entire stay of 4 days. The remaining one was small and took forever to come. It was painful waiting for it, every time we had to step out of the hotel. The hotel is also a bit run down and needs a bit of renovation. The four stars are solely for the location. Would love to visit again but to an improved version of the hotel with friendlier staff.

Praca dos Restauradores is very central and allows easy walking around central Lisbon and easy access to trams to the castle, boats on the Tagus, the starting location of bus tours outside the city, excellent restaurants, the metro system, a government tourist information office and a supermarket. The inexpensive Airport bus also stops right opposite VIP Executive Suites (both to and from the Airport). Airport bus tickets offer a discount on all Yellow Bus offerings in the City. We saved 5 times the cost of each ticket through these discounts. (The economics don't seem to add up for the bus company!). On arrival at VIP Executive Suites we were arrogantly asked to provide written evidence of our booking (confirmed and paid-for through Ultratur Viajes). On production of the document, there was no explanation of why we were not immediately registered, but were asked instead to return at 3pm. Clearly there was no record of our booking, but there was no explanation of what solution was being proposed. On return at 3pm, an Executive room on the top floor was made available (better than we had booked). But their treatment of two aged travellers from another country was far from supportive. Lisbon is beautiful but decaying, with many people clearly in difficulties.

Room Tip: Ask for top floor.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS: I'm not a fussy traveler and this is my first visit to Lisbon so I chose this hotel in mid-May because of its location, which turned out to be excellent. Metro entrance is just outside the front door (literally) and hotel is situated downtown-center, so it's within walking distance (1-6 blocks max) to many sites: including numerous restaurants; boutiques; pastry shops; Santa Justa elevator; Conserveria de Lisboa and waterfront. Ideal if you're limited by time, have children or limitations with mobility. I felt very safe during the day but the atmosphere changes at night like most city-centers with tourists: no less than three men approached me during my 7 min. walk home through crowds from a grocery store, asking if I wanted to buy drugs.

HOTEL: The major complaint I have is the air conditioning isn't working. I'm on the top floor (9) and the heat was over 30 Celsius (86F+) outside. The manager on duty gave me two options: move to a smaller room and lose the double bed (only twin beds left); or suck it up and wait until tomorrow because the weather should be cooler. I awoke to overcast grey skies and the room is cooler, so it appears that maybe he'd make a better weatherman. No A/C made the room, which is otherwise clean, a bit humid and carpet-smelly.

The room has a bit more than I would usually need: like a TV and bookshelf stereo unit. Tiny kitchenette is well stocked but there is no water in the fridge (they missed out on making a lot of money from me last night!) are there are no hangars in the closet - which is irritating. Small balcony is nice but the large ceramic tiles are in rough shape, some are missing. The website says there is no parking but I overheard another guest at the reception desk who made parking arrangements with this hotel. Internet is available but additional charge: up to 10 EURO for 24 hrs - or less amounts for fewer hours.

Coming to Lisbon not knowing what to expect, I'm happy with this location but I'm sure there are better hotel finds out there. Fortunately I don't spend much time in hotels!

The location is the best possible in Lisbon, right in the center, within short walking to most sites. The metro station is in front of the hotel. The rooftop terrace has a small pool and a spectacular view of the city. We didn't try breakfast because there are so many better options around. Rooms are ok, clean but nothing special. Almost all rooms face the grand Praca dos Restauradores with the Hard Rock Cafe on the opposite side. With the window open, it was a bit noisy at night. All the pros easily overweigh the cons, so we decided to stay in the same hotel on the return to Lisbon after visiting other places.

Room Tip: Each floor has one bigger room (facing the next building, Palacio Foz) and one smaller room (facing...

Wonderful size room, with a kitchenette, thou, the whole place doesn’t not look that clean.
Walking distance to all the shopping and train station is almost next to the hotel

The location is superb in the heart of Lisbon, close to most attractions and good views over the city. Rooms were fine and the kitchen well supplied with enough equipment for room rate. We had booker for three nights but had to stay another three. The roof top pool looked good but it was too cold to use it at this time of year. Lots of good restaurants in the nearby area. Parking at 20euros per day was quite expensive if you have a car, but then a car is not really needed.

Room Tip: A roof at the front of the buliding would give he best views over the city.
