Rare and old Port and Madeira wines collection, also by the glass. Please note: this is a small and informal traditional wine bar with tapas of cheese and charcuterie that does NOT have any cooked meals; opens around 6pm and starts closing at 11pm, therefore the options breakfast/brunch and late night do not apply; closes on Mondays. “What more can I say? A wonderful experience.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 2, 2014

I don't pretend to know a whole lot about wine. I can name a few flavors (fruity, sweet, buttery) that I enjoy in a white wine, for example, but I don't know the difference between, say, a sauvignon blanc and a chardonnay. I wasn't sure what to expect by going to a wine bar, but all of the staff at BA Wine Bar were incredibly friendly, approachable, and, most of all, passionate about their craft. They perfectly selected an assortment of wines for us based on our preferences (including my very vague, uncertain ones). Once you've named some flavors you enjoy, they bring a few to the table and let you taste 3-4 (or more) in order to select which you'd like a glass of.

Their wine choices were spot on, but the "wows" don't stop at their ability to match you with a great drink. We also got the platter with charcuterie, sausage, cheese, bread, olive oil tasting, jam, and more. We also got some tuna with olive oil and sardine. All were delicious, and they told us where each item we ate was sourced from and what made it special. In particular, the olive oil tasting was very eye opening, especially when the olive oil was combined with salt and pumpkin or tomato jam, as the staff recommended. A completely new taste experience!

The wines are also very well-priced. Most were between 4 and 7 Euro for a glass, and I only saw one or two very expensive options on the menu.

Don't let the warnings that they don't serve hot food deter you. We left extremely stuffed (bread, meat, and cheese will do that to you!) and very content with our drink choices. The only way the experience could have possibly been better would be if they offered wine flights (they do offer them for port, but not for reds or whites.) As someone who can't drink much more than a glass of wine, it's tough for me to try as many options as I'd like in most cases. It would be lovely to get an opportunity to try more variety next time!

“Simple high quality cheese, meat and wine”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2014 via mobile

Lovely small wine bar that is happy celebrating the great cheese, meat and wine of Portugal. Very attentive service in our case from Joao who knew and enthused about what they had to offer. 2 of us shared a platter and a few glasses of superb red wine finished off with a white port. High quality simple food at a pretty reasonable price. Happy to recommend this place - probably worth booking which is easy enough via email and Rui the owner came back to me with a confirmation of our booking within 30 minutes.

“Lived up to expectations and beyond!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 30, 2014

All reviews I have read for this place have been good and this is no different! It is not often that the level of service and quality of food excel expectations but this was fantastic. As a promotion of Portuguese produce you cannot beat it. Several pages of national wines to choose from but tell the staff your tastes and they will know which ones to bring to suit. We had tastings of 6 different wines, all excellent suiting different palates. The tasting plates of cheeses, olive oils with jams, meats were all also Portuguese produce and extremely tasty. The staff were all knowledgable and added to the evening. We also had spiced sardines, again very tasty. A meal for 2 with 3glasses of wine each was euros 70 and well worth every cent. Be wary though you must book in advance the place is small with only 8 tables.

“This is not the real Lisbon, but what can be done with high standards.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 28, 2014

Many of the restaurants in this area are very small. They are not cheap, especially for Lisbon standards. However, the agenda to know us as guests and to cater to what we want are job one.
Very refreshing and it works!
This and many of the restaurants were seated to capacity.
Never a harried or rushed feel we were able to enjoy our fare and owner so way cool in hid hospitality and food delicious!
Would recommend and yes return, again.

This is a lovely, small, intimate restaurant which offers really good local fare. Perfect for a romantic dinner for two but reserve a table in advance. Lovely atmosphere, good wine and friendly staff.
