I don't pretend to know a whole lot about wine. I can name a few flavors (fruity, sweet, buttery) that I enjoy in a white wine, for example, but I don't know the difference between, say, a sauvignon blanc and a chardonnay. I wasn't sure what to expect by going to a wine bar, but all of the staff at BA Wine Bar were incredibly friendly, approachable, and, most of all, passionate about their craft. They perfectly selected an assortment of wines for us based on our preferences (including my very vague, uncertain ones). Once you've named some flavors you enjoy, they bring a few to the table and let you taste 3-4 (or more) in order to select which you'd like a glass of.
Their wine choices were spot on, but the "wows" don't stop at their ability to match you with a great drink. We also got the platter with charcuterie, sausage, cheese, bread, olive oil tasting, jam, and more. We also got some tuna with olive oil and sardine. All were delicious, and they told us where each item we ate was sourced from and what made it special. In particular, the olive oil tasting was very eye opening, especially when the olive oil was combined with salt and pumpkin or tomato jam, as the staff recommended. A completely new taste experience!
The wines are also very well-priced. Most were between 4 and 7 Euro for a glass, and I only saw one or two very expensive options on the menu.
Don't let the warnings that they don't serve hot food deter you. We left extremely stuffed (bread, meat, and cheese will do that to you!) and very content with our drink choices. The only way the experience could have possibly been better would be if they offered wine flights (they do offer them for port, but not for reds or whites.) As someone who can't drink much more than a glass of wine, it's tough for me to try as many options as I'd like in most cases. It would be lovely to get an opportunity to try more variety next time!
