Rare and old Port and Madeira wines collection, also by the glass. Please note: this is a small and informal traditional wine bar with tapas of cheese and charcuterie that does NOT have any cooked meals; opens around 6pm and starts closing at 11pm, therefore the options breakfast/brunch and late night do not apply; closes on Mondays. More than the excellent all-Portuguese wine list, the generosity of the owner was amassing. you get the chance to taste many wines before you lock on your taste, and the cheese and ham plate is divine.
all the food and wines are extraordinaire, and you will spend a lovely 2-3 romantic hours.
afterwards, a walk in the active Bairro Alto is refreshing.

We saw the reviews on Trip Advisor an decided to try this out, but were still not prepared for what a lovely experience this was.

We don't know much about Portuguese wines so we put ourselves in the hands of the staff who recommended some fabulous wines that went brilliantly with the rich flavours of the cheeses and meats.

The food is simple; oils, cheese, cold meats and sausages, but top quality, prepared nicely and absolutely delicious!

The staff are attentive, knowledgeable and passionate about the food and its origins and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience of learning about each thing we were presented with.

All in all, a different, delicious, fun and friendly dining experience that we would recommend anyone to try.

We saw the reviews on Tripadvisor and were tempted. Popped by the restaurant on our first eve to reserve a table. The proprietors were very friendly and welcoming. However, when it came to our booking we felt very alienated by not having an encyclopaedic knowledge of Portuguese wines. By example, as soon as another table made it clear they were willing to splash out a lot of money for the tapas and wine we felt sidelined by the staff. (They only have 6 covers and 3 staff waiting on). We had to wait well over 10 minutes before they asked if we wanted to choose another wine.

The food was of fantastic quality, however we felt it was over priced for the portion size. Overall I would visit this place for its selection of wines & ports but not the tapas. I don't jest when we sought another restaurant later that evening. The portion sizes really were that small.

A little more attention to the fledging wine enthusiasts would have made this a much better experience.

Dear friends,

It's also thanks to people like you that this house is what it is. Any review can be helpful, not just for future visitors, but also for our understanding what to improve.

Please note the following: we believe that most of our visitors do not know portuguese wines, and that's why we try to help you explaining the wines, grapes and regions, and, most important, you get to taste them, before you decide the one to appreciate.

Sorry to say, but we consider that your example has nothing to do with what you said, and we resent that one may think we give more attention to some people just because they are willing to spend more money. BA results from a project meant to keep our salaries, not to be rich, which is almost impossible with the VAT difference in Portugal. It takes a lot of effort - not just finantial - to have "food of fantastic quality", searching for the best products.

Important: yes, there are 6 tables, but only 2 of the staff provide a customized wine workshop, and most of the times quality takes time.

Overall, we're sorry your experience at BA Wine Bar was not as positive as you expected.

Thanks again for your company. You'll be always welcome.

Having been to more than one wine bar in Lisbon it was hard to not compare experiences! I had a great experience at BA but it was not as amazing as some of the other places.

The vibe is great small and cozy but that meant that we had to make our reservation two days in advance. When we arrived the wine selection was intense. We decribed what we were looking for and they would bring a three bottles to taste before we picked the wine we wanted to drink.

We ordered the large cheese platter which was tasty but the jams were probably the highlight. We did try some of the canned tuna and octopus. They were surprisingly good.

All in all it was a great night. But I would go back to some of the other restaurants in Lisbon, I'm not sure I would wait to come back here again.

This was my final evening on a trip with a fellow friend in Lisbon. We both enjoy wine very much but to be honost on a quite average knowledge level, so definetely not wine experts. Even though, or because of this, we enjoyed our time here very much. The whole food menue is orienteted on wine and the personell will take you on a journey through local wines with great aromas, notes and an individual customer orientation. It was definetely our highlight during our stay in Lisbon. This Wine Bar has an unpayable charme that I would recommend to anybody who enjoys wine and a great cheese/ham.
