We have just returned from a 4 night break at the Hotel Mundial in Lisbon and found it to be a great hotel in a great, central location (less than 5 minutes' walk to the main square and Rossio rail station). We had a good size room - in need of a little cosmetic surgery in places - but generally good. Very clean and tidy although the shower was very temperamental in that it was boiling hot one minute and cold the next. The buffet breakfast was fine although I prefer more choice of cereal (either cornflakes or sweet sugar puff type things) but there was fruit, bacon, sausages etc, breads, cakes etc so it caters for all desires. We didn't eat in the hotel but found Valentinos Italian restaurant about 5 minutes' from the hotel (it's recommended in the DK Top 10 of Lisbon guide book) and it was excellent. So good in fact we went there each night. However, the hotel has a roof top bar which would be lovely on a warm sunny night and a panoramic restaurant on the 8th floor which looked good. They did a 4 course set menu with wine, soft drinks and coffee for Euro34 which we didn't think was too bad. We found Lisbon quite spread out and if you want to see it all you need to take the train or bus to some attractions. We went to Sintra by train (trains leave Rossio station every 20 mins or so and it takes about 40 mins). It's very nice but the weather tends to be quite different than in Lisbon and we had strong winds, rain and sunshine in the few hours we were there. Again, not everything is in walking distance in Sintra so you need to take the bus to attractions outside the town. All in all the break was lovely and we would recommend the hotel.

Room Tip: We had read that rooms facing the inner courtyard are nice but we didn't get one of those. We were on the 6th floor and it was pretty quiet.

good location, good breakfast, very nice and professional staff.
But they don´t make late check out (but they keep your bag in a safe room, so that is not bad!)

A big hotel, but a very well managed one. There are no feeling of overcrowding or package tour shoving. Great location dowtown Lisbon at the heart of everything: airport bus, tramways, metro, trains, Avis rental car all within 300 yards. The staff is extremely helpful and friendly.
Good breakfast, fabulous rooftop bar and good 8th floor restaurant for that special evening.
The higher floor roooms have good views.
4nights there and a very happy stay as our room had a fabulous view.

Room Tip: ask for the top floors

Hotel Mundial is a good choice in 'downtown' Lisbon as it is only blocks away from the main restaurant area and shopping. Plus the famous and interesting Tram 28 is right out the front door. This is our usual hotel while in Lisbon, and we have had various room locations, but the last time we had a nice view over the park across from the front door. The breakfast buffet is one of the best we have had in Lisbon. Staff are courteous and friendly. The renovated rooftop terrace is well worth a visit but hard liquor is very expensive in the hotel so stick to the excellent Portuguese wines and beers. Our only complaint of this visit was with the quality of the pillows - hard foam slabs. Nice bathrobes however.
