Owner description: Vintage trams take passengers on a scenic trip from the city center at sea level up through the narrow maze of streets towards St. George Castle.

The tram is not as crowded later in the afternoon and easier to get a seat. Do be careful of pickpockets. My husband was warned by a local when he was standing close to a woman with a child, implying that this person was about to pick his pocket. There is even a sign up in the tram itself! Just be aware and you'll be ok!
You are free to hop on and off all trams, if you have the Lisbon Card, as this allows you unlimited travel for the duration of the card.
Tips: The Lisbon Card is very useful especially if you are in Lisbon for a few days. We purchased the 72 hour card and it was so convenient for all forms of transports as well as providing free or discounted entry into attractions. It paid for itself and we ended up marking significant savings overall.

Slow but good transportation. Only one problem it does not make full circle. You need to plan the route to get back where you started. Was a nice ride to see town.

We took this tram on our first day as we had read lots of wonderful things about it. We got on at the start of the route so we could get one of the few seats that are available.

I have mixed feelings about this route, as although it's wonderful and you get to see a lot, most of the time you don't really know what you're seeing unless you have read up first.

Get to the tram stop early if you are going to take a ride as it gets very busy, two went by before we could actually get on one!

By all means take a ride, and do it at the beginning of your stay to help get acquainted with the city. Board at martim Moriitz so you can get a seat!

Tram 28 is an excellent method to leave everyday Lisbon and travel up to Barrio Alto the top of the city and the view from the park right there when you get off the tram is worth the trip.
