Situated in an rural area of Lisboa, out the touristic area but not far, with all the specialties of local cuisine, excellent service, fantastic visible cellar (a glass room in the dining area), where smokers could enjoy a cigarette after food because of the excellent ventilation that prevented the disturbance of non smokers. Visit it and feel like a local.

Service is good, place is nice. Food is fantastic/perfect. Empadas de galinha are among the best I have ever tried (including many homemade ones), fish&mint soup (sopa de cacao) is a piece of heaven and must be eaten once in life (one soup is enough for 2, yes). I personally do have a soft spot/perversion for Pasteis de massa tenra (pastry filled with minced meat and fried, served with rice and salad)and they are very good there. Peixinhos da Horta are nice and warm (fried green beans). Wines are great, of course. Bill: the starters are evil as each small empada is like €1 and they are really small and they just put them in front of you on the table and you just eat 4 of them without thinking...the rest is very well priced considered quality and quantity (big portions, yes). They also have this dish which is quite hard to find (typical from certain parts of alentejo): cozido de grao (boiled meat with chickpeas). I personally think is disgusting (made with pig's ears as well..bleah) but many people love it.
the place is quite chic so don't wear flip flops.

I spent 21 days with the family in Lisbon, for the Holidays. When in Lisbon, you will always find great food, great wines for good prices. Not much of a challenge there.

But Magano will be definitely your best experience in town.

It starts with the service, that's charming and friendly - and the owner will be there, waiting your tables too, making sure everything is perfect.

And then there's the food. We ordered ALL entrées, and they were all perfect - with the pastries and egg dishes standing out.

I had pork as a main dish (very good) and those that went for the very traditional Alentejano foods were delighted.

Dessert was at the same level (the Portuguese sweets).

Oh, and have I mentioned that the wines there were incredibly accessible? We tried a vertical that finished with the Barca Velha - and the Barca Velha (best PT wine) was cheaper than in most wine stores.

Yes, all in all, we splurged, we ate, we indulged in a feast.

And we returned there as soon as we could.
