My husband and I stayed at Lisbon Colours this July, for 5 nights. We took the one-bedroom Lisbon e Tejo apartment.

Finding the building was a little tricky as we couldn’t find anyone on the streets who knew the road (not even our taxi driver). It’s useful to know that the road is right next to the Santa Casa de Misericordia, as taxi drivers should know where that is.

Katia welcomed us upon arrival with a free glass of port wine. She then carried one of our suitcases up the four (!!) flights of stairs, despite the intense heat! There was no way I could have done it, and I was very grateful for her help.

Our apartment was spotless and very nicely decorated. It was very large and had a lovely little balcony looking out over the party streets of the Bairro Alto. The bed was extremely comfortable and we had everything we needed. Guests are given a free bottle of wine, a large bottle of water, and some tea and coffee to get them started. We had a well equipped kitchen and a lovely bathroom with fresh towels, free toiletry products, etc.

The staff of Lisbon Colours come to clean the apartment every day and to make the bed, replace the towels, etc. The service really is like that of a hotel, which is great and we were not expecting. Most surprisingly, we were given a local mobile phone to keep during our stay, from which we could make local calls for free. This came in EXTREMELY handy when trying to arrange to meet colleagues and friends and was really an extra bonus.

While the Lisbon Colours staff are not always ‘in the office’ in the building, they can always be contacted using the mobile phone and they are very responsive.

We loved having our own little space to relax in Lisbon, and we really enjoyed being in the middle of the ‘party’ district. This place certainly isn’t for anyone who’s looking for tranquility in the evenings – the streets are bursting with noisy activity every night (although just closing the windows was enough to completely block out all noise, also because the bedroom is located in the back side of the building, not by the street). The location is perfect – everywhere is walkable. Lisbon seems huge on the map but most of the historic areas can be reached easily by foot from the Lisbon Colours. There is also a taxi stop right at the end of the street, and many of the city’s great restaurants are right there in the Bairro Alto.

We had a great stay at the Lisbon Colours and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the city. Thanks to Katia and the rest of the staff for making our stay really enjoyable.

Room Tip: Bear in mind that there is no elevator. If you don't think you can handle the stairs, take an apartment on a lower level, although you might then hear more noise from the street.

I stayed hear late June. My husband and I got stranded for one night in Barcelona due to the strike of the Portuguese airlines. I called Lisbon Colors, they kindly kept my reservation and the receptionist named Igor gave me his mobile to call him whenever we arrive.
The hotel is located in Barrio Alto . The apts are in a small quaint building newly renovated. There is no parking. Parking space for a fee ( a bit expensive )is available nearby about a 5-7 minute walk.
There is no elevator but Katia gladly helped us with our luggage.
We had a two bedroom apt with a balcony. The balcony overlooks the inner side of the building. The other apt with a balcony overlooking the neighborhood is on the 2nd floor (apt E). Our apt was small but very very clean. However, during our stay, the daily cleaning was not that great. Just making the beds , taking the garbage and washing some of the dishes. Nicely decorated. Fully equipped kitchen.Comfortable beds. No washing machine, the fee for washing clothes a bit expensive.
The streets get very crowded and loud at night during the weekend. The neighborhood has a very active night life. People crowd the streets until about 3 am. You can faintly hear the crowds outside when you close the windows.
Upon arrival we were greeted by Pedro. He checked us in and took us to our apt. He gave us a little radio cell phone and told us to use it to talk to reception at any time and in any situation.
Since we arrived a day late we asked if we can extend our stay for a day, they allowed us to do so. They also told us the extra night is free of charge since we didn't make it on our first planned night due to the airline strike.
There are many great restaurants bars and a mini market nearby.
We checked out, again Katia helped us with our luggage.

I spent four nights and I was really delighted, perfect location, service and kindness, all details are perfect. The apartment I got had a beautiful view and don't care too much about the noise from the road, just close the windows. Just a negative note, leaving in the morning I left a sweater on a chair in the living room, as it was too early to contact the reception, I've written to Lisbon Colours to have it back (sending also the picture of the room with the sweater) but no answer I received from them.

We stayed for four nights in Lisbon colours and it was great!! When we arrived the nice host offered us a very nice welcome port whine, then she brought us to our room. We booked a loft, but because my girlfriend had her birthday at the last day of our stay they gave us an upgrade to a two room appartment. Great!

It was a small cozy and modern appartment in a very cool old Portuguese building! We loved it. It was clean, maybe small but had space enough for us. It was located in the middle of Bairro Alto, but when you closed he windows you don't hear so much from the streets advantage for us was that we had to walk 10 steps amd we could choos out of many restaurants.

When we walked through the streets one of the hosts recognized us and offered us a port whine in the wine bar Afaia next to the appartments. Same owner. We loved it!

The day we left we got offered a dessert and a port whine because my girlfriend had her birthday. Amazing!!

If you are looking for great appartments at a greater location with thebest hosts. Go book it!

Booked a 2 bed apartment with balcony for 7 nights based on other travellers’ recommendations. What a mistake! I have never stayed in such a noisy location. The apartment block is in the Bairro Alto district, quiet and somewhat boring during the day though well located for access to many tourist destinations. Come 10pm it’s a different story. The many surrounding touristy restaurants and bars are packed most nights. Other than Sunday and Monday nights when venues closes around 1pm, the music blasts till at least 3 am and revelers are still partying at 4 am. Unless you too are a full on party animal this location is not for you.

The apartment is reasonably well appointed –though not flash it has most mod cons other than washing machine and telephone. We were provided with a mobile but no chargerto be used call ‘reception’ as there is no reception on site. We could make no other outgoing calls though could receive incoming calls. On day 3 the phone battery went flat and we had to wait to hand the phone to the caretaker the next day to be recharged.

Our apartment bedrooms had a view onto the small street; hence the sleepless nights. The living area looked onto an inner courtyard – nothing special but there was plenty of day light. Nighttime lighting in the apartment was very poor – it was impossible to read in the living area and in bedroom one needed to have the ceiling light and bedside lights on to caste sufficient illumination for reading. Forget watching television unless you speak Portuguese.

Apartment cleaning was hit and miss –some days it was not cleaned till 5pm or 6pm and on the day before we checked out there was no clearing at all!

The caretaker staff who did the cleaning were helpful. I was sick and one assisted me to locate a doctor.

Room Tip: Don't stay here if you want to sleep before 4 am each night.
