“Where the age of discovery began”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

Standing here in front of a piece of history on the great Portuguese explorers and navigators, all the names started flashing back and jumping out of text books! A ride to the top of the monument offers a commanding view of Belem, the Tagus River and the 25 de Abril Bridge. A nice water fountain is located nearby and a short leisure walk takes you to the Torre de Belem, unfortunately was closed on Monday during our visit.

“A Strong Alternative to Torre de Belem”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

If you're looking for a view and a quicker stop, this is your place. It's definitely newer and doesn't come with the history/story that other locations might, but it's tall and well-located,which is what you need when looking for a view of the city. It's cheaper than the Torre, and line-free, so with a time-crunched day we picked this over the Torre de Belem. Either one would've been a fine choice, but this is what worked for us. No regrets.

Hello everybody

I am a portuguse guy, and one day i went into this monument to go, urgently to the bathroom, and i received a mensage from the security, that, "only clients and tourists can go to the bathroom"....this is ridiculous....

And at the same day, i went to the building, to get a coffe at the Coffe Machine to get a coffe and I received the same menssage: "only costummers and tourists can get a coffe"... as a Portuguese i have shame on this...

Make sure to include this site in your tour of Belem . Once you are in the balcony on top , enjoy the beautiful panorama of this part of the city of Lisbon . See the nice waterfront promenade , the nice square below you and the impressive Jeronimos Monastery and the Jardim de Belem behind you ..

Beautiful monument. Well worth the €3 to go to the top to overlook the river and monastery. Shame the area around the base of it hasn't a bit more shade & seating, but don't avoid seeing it.
