“Nice look out from the tower”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 11, 2012

The memorial (monument) itself is memorable by size. You can easily reach it walking by the river Tejo from the Belem tower. There is very nice view from the tower down to the "star mosaic" and really nice view to Belem and Lisbon.

“impressive building”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 1, 2012

It is an impressive building, located in a beautiful area. When visiting Belém then you have to see this. We did not go in, but studied the structure outside. It was very nice to stroll along the river and the view.

“Check it out but no need to go in and to the top”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 12, 2012

It's a concrete monument celebrating the explorers and navigators who departed from Lisbon. It's quite nice to look at it from the outside, and quite enjoyable to walk around it, have a look at the statues carved on its sides, and at the large world mosaic just underneath. But the ride to the top is not really worth the price as you get really nice views from many other places in Lisbon, for free.

“It's big!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 6, 2012

The sheer scale of this is very impressive and well worth a stop if you’re seeing the other main sights of Belem such as the Torre de Belem and the Jeronimos monastery. We didn’t go up, as we’d been up the Torre de Belem and had some nice views so we didn’t really see the point. A wonderful monument to the intrepid adventurers that opened up the world 500 years ago.
