“impressive statue”

This is a statuesque monument with very nice scluptures. Overlooking the river, making for a nice relaxing stroll. The trip to the top is also worthwhile. Beautiful views. We visited while on the hop on hop off bus.

“Impressive”

Fab and impressive statue with an interesting history. Well worth the visit to Belem to view. Only a 10 minute train ride from Lisbon, well worth it.

“Beautiful Monument”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 19, 2012

The Discoveries Monument was built in 1960 to commemorate the 500 years since the death of Henry the Navigator. The architect was Cottinelli Telmo and the sculptor was Leopoldo de Almeida. This is a very beautiful monument and the sculptures really impressed me.

“Go to the top”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 17, 2012 via mobile

This is a fantastic monument to look at from the outside but don't do what many tourists do and leave it at that. There is a lift inside, which is cheaply priced, that takes you to the top of the monument (6 floors up). From here you get the best views of Belem - the tower, the monastery, the bridge and out over the Tagus. Also don't forget to look down at the ground around the monument from up here.

“Worth a visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2012

Great place to visit. Your can take a lift to the top (6 floors) for great views of the Tagus, bridge , Monastry and Belem tower. Free Parking near monastry.
Low entry fee (just a few Euros) and that included entry to a small photographic exhibition in the basement.
Fitting tribute to the historic explorers, well worth a visit
