Church of San Roque is very rectangular in design, with the most opulent chapels around the perimeter of the nave. The altar is not bad, but it really gets lost in the rest of opulence. The ceiling is quite special too. For an extra fee, you can go to a museum to see sacred objects, etc.

This is a Church just close to the main walk circuit of Lisbon tourists, nearby Chiado and Bairro Alto. The Church is worthing a visit due its paintings and very rich statues and mansories. It has an adjoining museum. The place where it stands is also very interesting and vivid one.

A facade glistening in the sunshine was lovely to see, and a harbinger for the treasures inside.

Dating from the latter 1500s it was embellished with Royal wealth and as a bulwark against the Reformation. Astonishingly it managed to survive the 1755 disaster almost totally intact.

Exquisite dazzling ornamentation abounds. Highly decorative chapels line the sides, each one more captivating with reverential adornment, culminating in the remarkable Capela de São João Baptista.

Azulejos add a further lustre to the glorious space.

Beautiful church. Must see. Quiet frankly all the churches in Lisbon are gorgeous. I suggest visiting as many as you can, especially in Lisbon.

Don't be fooled by the plain exterior of Sao Roque Church - this hides the fact that inside the church has some splendid baroque chapels.....a must see!
