Really liked the Lisbon Zoo. The Zoo has an old style. Lots of tree and places to sit and talk. Many different animals, but not a huge area. Easy to get around. Very enjoyable visit.

A friend of mine, his family and I visited the Lisbon Zoo in December of 2013 and had a wonderful time! We started our visit with the 40-minute presentation by the dolphins and sea lions, which was very enjoyable. In addition to that attraction, the zoo is fairly extensive and has some very nice exhibits with a wide variety of animals throughout. At the entrance can be found a McDonalds and some other dining opportunities as well, which is a nice break before continuing your visit. The zoo is also equipped with a cable car ride (included in admission price) that provides a fun and unique view of the animals from above. Our group probably spent at least five hours at the zoo, so be sure to plan enough time.

I have seen worse zoos. Most of the animals seemed in good spirits and had plenty of space and there was a large variety of species for the benefit of us drooling spectators while we noshed our junk food and pointed at the captive beasts from a safe distance. So yeah, all good. Well, almost. Upon entering we were led in the direction of the Dolphin arena where very loud and rather hideous music was playing. Disco music, club-style dross plus the occasional 'ballad', the kind that stupid people have played at their funerals. It soon became apparent that the dolphins weren't hidden away protected from the din, but rather swimming in tanks just adjacent to the main area. They didn't seem happy. I felt like I wanted to cry. They are sensitive creatures and to subject them to such dreadful music and clapping seemed so very cruel. There were also sea-lions who appeared to be having a bit of a better time. I think sea-lions are made for this kind of bawdy entertainment: all they do is sit on rocks, fight and mate anyway so it probably wasn't too hideous. But I lost all respect for the zoo after the way the dolphins were treated.

We took the Metro to the Lisbon Zoo. The Zoo is right across the street from the Metro Exit. We paid the entrance fee and we (my wife and I) were given maps of the zoo, which were easy to read and displayed the locations and pictures of all the animals. We spent 3 hours at the zoo. The animals were free to roam around outdoors on beautifully landscaped grounds. Of course they were unable to get to us because of walls and pits and wire. The zoo was clean. There were lots of children. It was a nice afternoon.
