Owner description: LISBON ZOO – GO AROUND THE WORLD IN JUST ONE DAY At Lisbon Zoo, we invite you to travel around the world without leaving Lisbon. Find the Sumatran Tigers in the dense vegetation of the Rainforest, observe lions, giraffes and elephants behaviour at the dry African Savannah and dazzle with the majestic flight of the colourful birds of South America. Our mission is to develop and promote a zoological and botanical park, as a centre of conservation, reproduction and reintroduction of endangered species, through scientific investigation and environmental enrichment programs. Along with education is a strong entertainment component that will ensure a great family time, always with the conviction that when visiting Lisbon Zoo you’re contributing to this great project of conservations of endangered species and their habitats.

It was our last day in Lisbon, and we did not know where to go, so we decided to go to the zoo. At first we were surprised with the expensive ticket, but when you see all the animals ant plus the dolphin show, you forget about it...

“A fun day out!”
Reviewed May 2, 2013

I don`t usually like zoos, as the animals tend to look sad and not well taken care of but Lisbon Zoo impressed me. A bit expensive at first but once you spend the day in there, you do not regret it paying the amount. Dolphin show, reptile presentation, cable car going above all the zoo... it was a very fun day and the animals did look very well taken care of, with lots of space to walk about as well.

“Dolphins and see lions, but I felt in love with gorillas!”
Reviewed May 1, 2013

If we stay enough in a capital, which is also known to have a big zoo, we want to give it a go. Reading about what kind of animals they have and nice reviews we went to see it. Close to Jardim Zoologico metro station you cant miss it. We walked inside the zoo for a long while and it's rather confusing to find the place, where one pays an entrance fee. Another confusing thing are toilets and signs rather nowhere to be seen. Lots of parents were seen running around and searching to find a toilet. Crisis! Dolphin and sea lions shows are nice, although we're divers and we like to watch those animals to roam freely on worlds oceans. But they were really nice animators and animals seemed involved with such enthusiasm, we decided to close one eye and join. Children were enjoying and socialising with those cute water creatures so at least I hope they'll grow up to respect them.
We went on cable car and so we were able to check where and what's going on in a zoo. We were astonished to see how huge pet cemetery is inside the zoo! Animal owners bury their dogs and cats, giving them tombs and graves, flowers and descriptions on graves some humans will never get. It was cute to see how people grieve when they loose their pet.
We also saw cassuary for the first time. Lovely to see these rare animals are still to be seen. Young baboons are escaping the cages and eat from dump. We sat on the bench for awhile nearby baboons and youngsters are freely roaming around and trash the trash. Cigarettes are their most favoured pray.
But gorillas! OMG! They've a nice silverback, who played a game with the cage keeper: I will chase you and you'll give me a banana. But the real treat was a female gorilla, who came outside and behaved much better as some visitors of the zoo. The look she gave to the girl who tried to mimic the gorilla voice was absolutely something I'll never forget. Like: who's the monkey now?
We took a small train around the zoo and that was a day to remember. One of the nicest zoos we've ever seen. Go for it, people.

“One of the best zoos in the world!”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Fantastic zoo, brilliant range of animals, all kept in very good conditions for a city zoo. Entrance fee was fair and it was not too busy, even in the middle of the peak summer season.

Highly recommended!

“Don't miss this gem!”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Our daughter persuaded us to visit Lisbon Zoo, having seen the rave reviews on Trip Advisor. Normally I wouldn't visit a Zoo in a foreign city, I'd be looking for places to visit that were more typical of the location than a Zoo which is pretty international, but we were so glad we visited Lisbon's Zoo! It's easily accessed on the Metro. The site is not too large & is on a hillside with wonderful views. The animals are beautifully kept in imaginative enclosures. There is an amazing cable car (included in the entrance fee) which takes you all over the Zoo so you can view the white rhinos, the camels, the giraffes, the elephants, the monkeys, even the lions from above. (You get a good view of the planes taking off & leaving from Lisbon Airport as well.)There is also a train, (1 Euro per person), which also takes passengers around the Zoo so you can see the animals from ground level. All the staff were very friendly & helpful.. Last but not least do not miss the fantastic Dolphin Show, (included in the entrance fee). It is awesome!!
