Owner description: LISBON ZOO – GO AROUND THE WORLD IN JUST ONE DAY At Lisbon Zoo, we invite you to travel around the world without leaving Lisbon. Find the Sumatran Tigers in the dense vegetation of the Rainforest, observe lions, giraffes and elephants behaviour at the dry African Savannah and dazzle with the majestic flight of the colourful birds of South America. This was our first visit to the Lisbon zoo. We really enjoyed the beautiful surroundings, habitats ,and animals. We had a fun time watching the monkeys! The zoo was so clean and peaceful. We would recommend it to visitors in Lisbon with or without children! Thank you for a lovely experience!

I've been very fortunate to have the opportunity to travel all over the world, and one of my guilty pleasures is to visit zoos in as many cities as I can. I've probably been to more than thirty, including the Bronx Zoo, Washington, Tokyo, San Diego, London, Anchorage... the list goes on... but I have to say that I now have a new unexpected favorite- The Lisbon Zoo. Beautifully integrated into its urban environment, making fantastic use of its limited space, the zoo has a great assortment of animals from all over the world... and you get closer to them than you could imagine possible. The roster includes (but is not limited to) Siberian tigers, okapi, giraffes, elephants, rhinos, hippos, lions, cheetahs and tigers... and the best assortment of great apes and monkeys (gorillas, chimpanzees, orangutans, baboons, and many others) that I have ever seen in one place. Some of the animals are kept in what look to be ancient ruins (the antelopes lounging in their stone archways is a sight to behold). Views are unobscured and spectacular. And to top it off, there are two different sea life exhibits- one for sea lions, and one for dolphins... who, along with their sea lion pals, put on a great show. All of the animals look happy (with the exception of one grumpy grizzly bear) and are obviously loved and well cared for. There is a tram traversing the gardens, and plenty of places to get refreshments- funny enough, the McDonalds also serves as a viewing area for the crocodiles... My family had originally planned to spend half a day there, but we ended up easily using seven daylight hours. Exhibits all come with English information signs. The zoo is easy to get to, just a five minute walk from the Metro. If you have the time, don't miss it...

It's a relatively big zoo. Not the biggest I've seen. Yet one can admire the great variety of species. You can get quite close to some animals, for example the giraffes. The price of the ticket is not that high. The zoo shop is quite expensive. I thought that Lisbon would have a bigger zoo, but still it is worth the visit.
