“Lisbon Must-see”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

The Portuguese Maritime Museum is an authentic, educational, and completely absorbing visit back in time to the Age of Discovery. An enjoyable must-see for the casual visitor and essential for those in scholarly interests, as well. Located on the Tagus across a large park from the Prince Henry Monument and a short walk to beautiful marinas and cafes. .

“Second only to Madrid's, but with greater historical and geographical impact”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 16, 2013

If you love ship models or the history of the age of discovery, you will love it. The first part of the museum is the best, later you see many very large scale models of all kinds of sailing ships, from warships and fishing vessels, early barques to paddle wheel fighting ships. But the part on the age of discovery and the models of the ships men risked their lives to literally go around the world in, were something. Women may be bored unless they can watch the History channel all day with excitement. The last part deals a lot with Portuguese wars to hold Angola and other protectorates, but would be of interest to mosly Portuguese. On Sunday it is free and parking up behind the place is too, look down a side street.

“Love Naval history:)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2013

I really enjoyed this museum especially all the well detailed model boats on display, as well as the many Portuguese naval history events that I was not aware of. The museum is very large and filled with lots of historical information and displays. I have always been in interested in Portuguese naval history and I was very pleased with this museum. Furthermore, there was a little food cart outside selling those Belem pastries:)

“Huge museum - and interesting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 24, 2013

A fascinating museum with thousands of model ships and other items. You also learn about Portuguese history. The museum is huge, and when we visited it there were surprisingly few visitors. I can recommend this museum to anyone (not only to ship-enthousisasts). At the end of the museum there is a gift-shop and a cafeteria.
