This arch is at the end of Rua Augusta the main street in Lisbon, and which now is pedonal pass the arch and you enter a great square a lots of café and small restaurants, on the two side buildings several exhibitions are held. Marquis de Pombal is the author of this new rebuilt Lisboa after the earthquake in 1755. You will be able to climb up when the recontruction is complete as they say. The view will be fabulous. On sundays below the arch you can see a sort of flea market for old books

This arch is currently completely enveloped in repair covers and cannot be seen at all. It appears that the work on it will take some considerable time so I would advise anyone to check before expecting to enjoy this

I think is beatyful because is in the middle of the downtown, so, from the Arch you can see all the peolpe walking around and drinking coffee, in their own world.
Is a good framework for a picture.

A beautiful monument of Comércio Square. Buit to celebrate the city reconstruction after the 1755 earthquake. In ther area, slaves were sold during the empire. The area has many restaurants with outdoor seating and several shops. It's something like the Arc de Triomphe as it welcomes the tourists.

Built to commemorate the city's reconstruction after the 1755 earthquake. It has six columns (some 11 m high) and is adorned with statues of various historical figures. Originally designed as a bell tower, the building ultimately transformed into elaborate arch within more than century-long delays. Next year will be cleaned and will be allowed to visit the upper part of the arch, looking forward to do it!
