“good value and good location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2011

I just stayed 3 nights solo at 45 euros a night and I was very impressed - firstly the place is in a great location - a lot of hotels are further north around the marque de pombal and this is much more central ( I was meeting groups who came from all over, and they stayed at other hotels and they ended up doing a lot of walking to be downdown).

Secondly the hotel is as clean and modern as any Ive stayed at regardless of price, and is an old building very well restored with, for example, nice portugese tiles. I had a room overlooking the a pretty pedestrian street -( bit of a tourist trap to be honest ) and a full balcony height window which I left open - some might find the chatter from the street below disturbing into the small hours but it was music-free and I liked the street sounds.

Room was spotless with a good matress and very good shower- its amazing how many hotels mess those two things up.

breakfast was very good - with the exception of the "sunny d" style orange juice - which I think is just a cultural thing - Im told portugese have a sweet tooth and expect juice to be sweet - and wifi was free - I didnt try the evening buffet but it looked like good value. Staff friendly.

Frankly one of the nicest hotels Ive stayed in for anywhere near the price. I

15 mins from the airport, this hotel offered a fantastic central location to visit lisbon. After a quick check in and some good advice from the concierge, we were off to explore. the hotel is in the centre of the restaurant area and we ate there on 2 occasions however it does get a bit tirsome being approached by the touts. back in the hotel, our room was small and at the top of the hotel but was such a bargain really did not bother us. the room was clean and bright and cleaned daily. breakfast became less vegetarian asthe week went on but there was always bread, cheese and yoghurt available. For a great valuehotel stay here.

Stayed here for 3 nights on the advice of Tripadvisor reviews on a budget long weekend in Lisbon. The hotel is absolutely fantastic - right in the centre of town (couldn't ask for a more central location!) on a quiet road with lots of restaurants. I asked for a room at the back of the hotel (for more peace and quiet). We got a nice large room with plenty of storage space.

Very clean hotel, room cleaned daily with fresh towels. Breakfast included with plenty to choose from. Absolute bargain at EUR 45 per night (in Feb). Free wifi, aircon, TV, there was even a (good) hairdryer in the bathroom! Friendly staff - happy to book taxis for you etc.

Strongly recommend for a short sight-seeing break in Lisbon.

Stayed for 2 nights in Feb'11. The location is perfect, and the cleanliness of rooms and friendliness of reception is great. However the room was extremely small, we even didn't have space to store our clothes properly. The door didn't protect from sounds from outside, we could hear every step in the corridor. As it was February, it was also cold and humid in the room, but it's not the season for Lisboa, so maybe for most of travellers it wouldn't be a trouble. The breakfast area was big, and food quality is unexpectedly good. Value for money is good as well. I would definitely recommend this hotel to someone travelling for weekend sighseeing (so just sleeping in the room), but not for a romantic trip or a long stay.

We chose this hotel because of its location in the center, close to Rossio station and not far from Praça do Comércio where New Year's Eve Firework Show had been conducted.

Small but cozy and well decorated room - a couple of birds painted on the wall instead of traditional picture one may see at the walls somewhere else. Our window faced the pedestrian street so the view was good. The bed was not very wide, although it was comfortable. Our room was at 4th floor, and there were some noise at the weekends because there are many restaurants at the street, but this noise was easy to avoid by closing the window shutter. Concerning the noise, the bigger problem was the garbage van that came as early as 2 am, but we heard it just twice - I have no idea if it generally come rarely or did we just sleep deeply at all other nights.

Plenty of AC outlets, all conveniently located. There were enough space for your clothes and belongings - including spacious wardrobe, bureau and two nightstands. Free shoe polish provided every day.

Breakfast was pretty average. Fresh fruits are OK, but juices from the machine weren't tasty. If you take an yoghurt, double-check the expiration date on the cover - generally they expire same day or tomorrow, that is OK, but sometimes there were expired cans!

Wi-Fi was free of charge, but it didn't work in our room, although the signal level was high. We had to go to the hall to catch a connection.

I was a bit concerned about how this hotel was going to be, just because the price seemed to good to be true. It was a great little find though. Our room was great, the bedroom was an ok size with a big bathroom and our room was away from the street so nice and quiet. All very clean. The only downsides were that the sound on the satellite channels was intermittent and also the lift was out of order on a number of occasions. I'm 6 and a half months pregnant and our room was on the 5th floor so if i could manage it....! Although the breakfast is a bit rubbish it's reflected in the price and you can still make a decent packed lunch from the buffet.

By the way, if you're looking for somewhere to eat we cannot recommend highly enough a restaurant round the corner, take a right out of the hotel and then the first right. The restaurant (can't remember it's name, sorry) is spread over both sides of the street and does the most amazing spit roast chicken. You won't believe how cheap it is too!

this is the second time i have stayed at this hotel in three years. with so many options in the area i chose to come back due to the nice size of the rooms, the spacious bathrooms and the quiet street that it faces. i stayed on the fifth floor facing the street both times and was very happy. the location, as everyone else has commented, is excellent. could hardly be better.
the staff is first rate. there have been some comments about the dour attitude of the front desk staff. first of all the lack of outward emotion seems to be a national trait. however, there is no hesitation to be helpful and efficient. both my wife and i found their actions to be very friendly though the expressions might have been difficult to read.
so here is my "two thumbs up" with three qualifications. first, making reservations was problematic. emails did not work so we had to resort to phone calls and faxes. the wifi in the building does not work. for me keeping in touch with my office was very frustrating and sometimes infuriating. finally, for a vegetarian the breakfast is not sufficient. basically, cheese and bread with coffee.
however, i don't want to leave this review on a down note. i would definately come back and would not even look for another hotel...however, i would definately check that the wifi is updated. if it isn't, then i would just plan of drinking a coffee at the starbucks around the corner and get pnline there. enjoy your stay.
