This simple hotel offers simple on suite, air conditioned rooms at reasonable rates for a capital city. There are many hotels with good views but this must come out near the top. No more than twenty meters away tourists and city dwellers congregate through the day for the view and to watch the sun go down over the city......well you get all this from the Albergaria. A short walk away the wonderful 28 tram, offering the best trip in Lisbon can be caught. Notorious for pick pockets, so just be careful. There is a lift to all floors, an excellent breakfast, polite and English speaking staff. This is a little gem.

Room Tip: always book a city view with balcony room. Not all rooms have balconies.

We stayed 4 nights here based on other traveller reviews and can say it lived up to our expectations
Well located, near quite a few decent small restaurants, clean, well managed and a warm friendly staff.
The hotel is somewhat aged and rooms are small. The rooms mostly have magnificent city views and the breakfast is hearty and fresh
Overall we can recommend this nice little hotel to travellers who want value and good position

This hotel is just a few yards from a very popular viewpoint. Both the viewpoint and the hotel have a commanding view of nearly all of Lisbon and the river. In fact, once you learn to recognize the glass-enclosed restaurant at the top of the hotel, you'll be able to spot your room from pretty much anywhere in the city. The rooms are small, like many European hotels, and reaching the hotel on foot from just about anywhere is a real climb. But the views are worth it! It was a much better hotel than I was expecting.

This hotel overcharges for what it offers, or rather what it does not! Certainly not good value for money. No bar available at any time, and even a request for a cup of hot water could not be met. Apart from one person, staff at reception were not customer friendly; rather than helping with problem solving the issues in hand (i.e. missing the room key), the lady at reception ignited more the situation by blaming the customers (i.e. that we lost it and that anybody could have access to our room). Eventually she found the key at reception which had been placed in the wrong slot (obviously not by us). Not impressed!

Filipa D, Diretor-Geral at Albergaria Senhora Do Monte, responded to this reviewResponded June 28, 2017

Dear guest,
we are sorry to hear that your stay in Albergaria Senhora do Monte was disapointing. However, all the informations were given when you arrived: there is no bar avaialble, the terrace room in opened in the morning for breakfast only and the clerck at the reception may, EXCEPTIONALLY, boil some water on request, but that is always subject to the ammount of work he has. That is why we do not offer room service.
Regarding the key, the lady at the desk made exactly what she is teached to do facing a situation like this. Your room key was found on the corridor floor and brought to the reception by another guest that misplaced it. The information given was right: in possession of your key, anyone can enter the room. That is why we always recomend guests to leave the key at the desk. ALWAYS.
Sometimes we choose places to stay based on recomendations or other reviews and when we get there, the place does not match the expectations. When that is the case you should always try to find someplace elsewhere where you can be more satisfied and fulfilled, specially when you stay for 6 days in a row, despite all the disapointment. The guests complaints are an excelente oportunity to review our methods and we will try to pass the information more clearly about not having some services like those you thought we did. Thank you very much.
Best regards.

We had stayed in Lisbon earlier in the spring, but couldn't get rooms at that hotel for nights before and after our Azores excursion. So we chose this hotel for two separate stays.

It's on the highest hill in Lisbon, and be sure to ask for a room with a view of the city. Wow!! Although the second time, we couldn't get that view and had a suite (#26) with 2 balconies opening onto the street. It was noisier, but not too bad, and interesting to look at all the action.

The wifi worked great in all the rooms we were in (we had 2 rooms for 3 people on 2 occasions). This is very important nowadays!

I have to say that the woman (Ane) who handled all my voluminous emails and problems was superb. Not only was she great by email communications, but we really enjoyed talking to her while we were here. So helpful in many ways. The other staff (maids; others at reception) were very good also.

The hotel is right above a busy street (Rua da Graca), which is full of stores, restaurants, etc. Be sure and eat at O Piteu restaurant down there--superb. (can get crowded, though).

The only negative thing about this hotel is the breakfast. It didn't come up to the standards we found at other hotels during our 6-week Portugal visit. We just didn't think it had good variety. It needs some good cereals (granolas) for people who want that. Plus, the quality of the cheese/meats could be improved. The location on the 4th floor has views of the city--again, superb. Plus outdoor seating if it's warm.
