“Nothing special”
Reviewed August 15, 2013 via mobile

The sight over Lisboa is good... but that‘s all. the rooms are nice but old with old furniture, breakfast is poor and there is no one attending the dining room, you have to help yourself also or taking plates and cups. In general a good value for money in a good position, but nothing special.

the location of the hotel is great- it in the historic Graca area of lisbon. The views from the bar are spectacular. However, the service is not the best nor are the rooms. THe bathroom smelled.

For the location I would stay again, overall I would go to the Sheraton or Four Seasons.

Situated at the top of a hill gave us great views from our room of the town and castle; however, some stamina is required to climb up the last steep slope.
Tram 28 is fun and exciting-a great way to get into town, and hop on-hop off tickets are available at the tobacconists. However, beware of pickpockets; we witnessed a near theft of a fellow tourist on this crowded tram. (Face to face: the thief placed his bag over the zipped bag of the tourist and was about to open the zip when we alerted the tourist to this fact. Be careful as thieves can get aggressive.)
Unable to buy a glass of wine in the bar before going out in the evening which was a shame. A glass of white port was expensive at 5 euros.

We stayed here 3 nights on our first ever visit to Portugal and were welcomed with open arms. The view was gorgeous day and night especially of the castle and bridge. It has excellent access to restaurants and a great way to burn off calories from meals. Staff were very helpful with directions and suggestions. Very clean rooms although as with most smaller hotels, you can hear your neighbors. Not a big deal as everyone is quiet after 10pm. The bar and breakfast room on the top floor had stunning views. We are coming back!

Room Tip: Ask for the upper floors. We were on the ground level.

We stayed in this hill top hotel for 4 nights in December 2012.
An excellent view of Lisbon from our room, clean and comfortable. It's convenient to walk downhill to city centre. We found it good exercise for us everyday walking uphill after dinner . Definitely not for the physically challenged.

Room Tip: Room with a view.

The only good thing about this place are rooms with city view. Everything else is horrendous.

I have taken tram 28 to get to the hotel and been mugged by group of men. Well, it happens, so never mind. However, I was disappointed how unsympathetic hotel staff were after what was to me quite an unpleasant experience. Not helpful at all, even charging me €85 for a phone call I had to make to cancel my credit cards.

Hotel rooms are old and basic, too basic. If you can get city view rooms, I would not bother going there. Hotel was generally clean, but previous occupant of the room used electric shaver and I could see shaved bits of hair on bathroom sink. Breakfast too basic, only bread with ham and cheese, nothing hot.

Streets surrounding the hotel may be called old and rustic, but they are just dirty with luck of investment…

Spend three nights here recently.
I travel a lot for business and pleasure and indeed have been doing that for many. many years. I do not like hotel chains and I have a particular aversion to 'international business' hotels in big cities. I always look for a family owned local hotel that is well situated close to the centre of the city. Do Monte fits the bill perfectly. It was over 15 years since I was in Lisbon and consequently did not have a great feel for the geography, but I chose well with this hotel. It is incredibly friendly and situated in a a very pleasant part of town - about a fifteen minute walk UP from the centre. It is right on the tram-line #28 (strangely I only took it downhill, all trips back to the hotel I ended up walking for one reason or another).
Fantastic view over the whole city and the suspension bridge - delightful to sit on one's balcony sipping a beer and watching the world go by. Nicely furnished and very clean.
One small niggle - how about a wider selection for breakfast? perhaps an egg or two?
Other than that an excellent choice and good value.

Room Tip: make sure you get a balcony
