We received rather cold welcome as we arrived in this hostel. The elderly man behing the desk was rude and obviously never heard about customer oriented approach... Quite similar experience with the previous review :)

In addition, our room was poorly cleaned and there was horrible smell - as if there had been someone smoking constantly...might have come from the carpeting.

I'd say that this was poor value for the money. Even though it wasn't expensive, we had much better experiences with the same/lower price through Lisbon and other Portugal. Served as one night stop, nothing more. Have to say, though, that the amazing store "El Corte Ingles" within 2 minutes walk was great with everything one could wish. And a vast crocery store downstairs.

In a time when $1 only buys you €0.63 (as of 3/7/08), finding a hotel that won't break the bank becomes cumbersome. With that in mind, Residencia Nazareth gives you a good value albeit at the expense of other things you look for in a hotel. A quad room for 5 nights at €78 per night is an arguably fantastic rate, but the praises of this hotel don't go much further than that. Don't get me wrong. Nazareth is a clean, well-managed establishment. The room is bright and airy, furnished with tv, bedstand, closet, and air-conditioning. Housekeeping does a good job of cleaning and supplying the rooms with fresh linen, towels, and other amenities. Breakfast is included, although it's forgettable. It is the same offering every morning consisting of ham, cheese, assorted breads, coffee, and what appears to be Tang. Good if you are hungry, but absolutely nothing to wake up specially for.

The hotel is just east of Parque Eduardo VII. The closest metro station is Parque, which is a 100-meter walk downhill. If you are in the market for a new car, the BMW, Mercedes, and Smart dealerships are adjacent to the hotel in the same building. And just like pretty much of all Lisbon, there are banks and ATMs all around the hotel. Despite the proximity of the park, metro, and ATMs, there is nothing else great about this location. There are no nearby convenient stores or supermarkets. Most eateries are shut down by 7pm. There are only a handful of eateries that remain open later, but you really need to walk a good 15 to 20 minutes before you can find one.

Lastly, the reception staff. During my stay, there were at least 4 receptionists that rotated duties. These guys are friendly enough and will engage you in conversation, with the exception of one. I never got the guy's name, but he does not belong in the hotel business. Never looks up from the desk and never greets you. Following is a conversation that I had with him.

Me: Do you have internet?
Guy: No.
Me: Can you tell me a place closeby where I can use the internet?
Guy: Mall.
Me: Um, what is the name of the mall?
Guy: Columbus.
Me: How do I get there?
Guy: Take Metro.
Me: What is the metro stop where I should get off?
Guy: (Mumbles inaudibly)

At this point I was just having fun irritating him cos I knew he had no desire to be helpful. Ah well, I just hope he never comes to visit my town and expects any help getting around.

Stayed here during quick visit to Lisbon. Well worth the 60Euro for twin with breakfast. Helpfuland friendly staff, place seems to have a certain charm. Located very near "Parque" underground station.

The Residencial Nazareth truly has a charm all its own and was a real plus point of our holiday.

We have never stayed in a place quite like it - rusty old charm, meets the 80s, but some how it works.

We stayed in a large twin room on the 5th floor, with a good sized bathroom, comfy beds and most importantly a robust air conditioning unit!

Reception is manned 24 hours, by very accommodating staff, who are not only courteous and helpful, but also interested in where you're from and how you're finding Lisbon.

Location is great for the price. Whatever you do, don't get a taxi from the airport, because the airport bus number 90 or 91 will take you to the Marques de Pombal stop for 3 Euro - from there, you just need to go back one street and up the hill, where you will find the hotel.

(On the way back, you need to get the 45 bus from the opposite side of the road to where you got off. This is free if you've paid for a five day metro card. Bonus!)

Reception is on the 4th floor and can be accessed from the lift downstairs (beware this lift is the most efficient I've ever come across, and is more like a ride!)

Parque metro station is a two minute walk each morning and is on the same line as Baixa-Chiado, one of the main destinations.

However, it's about a half hour walk into Rossio, Lisbon's main square, if you fancy a stroll.

Taxis back from the main night time areas like Cais de Sodre and the Bairro Alto (don't leave Lisbon without visiting the latter) are a bargain at about 5/6 Euro.

As we were out very late most nights, we missed breakfast a couple of time, but it's the usual bread, cheese and ham affair - a good simple start for a day's exploration.

So all in all a very good experience!

And a note about Lisbon itself - you just HAVE to go, it is the most amazing place, with the loveliest people. A European gem.

Just returned from a 4-day stay in Lisbon. Stayed at Residencial Nazareth which we booked through eBookers.ie. We were pleasantly surprised as we hadn't expected anything as good bearing in mind the price we paid - very reasonable. We followed the instructions and found Reception on the 4th Floor as stated (Had read a previous review complaining Reception was hard to find!). The Reception was manned 24 Hours and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had waitress service in the mornings for breakfast, which was also excellent, lovely fresh variety of different breads, fresh tea or coffee, juice, jams etc. Our rooms were cleaned every day and fresh towels supplied together with soaps and shampoo. There was a tea-making service and fridge in the room and also a hairdryer in the bathroom. In addition our room had a telephone and satellite television. So all in all, it was like home from home.

Hotel is very central, bus stop outside door, metro 3 minutes walk away & airport bus just 7 minutes walk and only 6 euro for 2 people on a single trip. We bought a 3-day transport pass which covered buses, trams and metro & cost only 10.55 euro each for the 3 days, - excellent value for money. We paid 20 euro for a taxi on arrival which got us to the hotel in about 15 minutes.

We will certainly recommend Residencial Nazareth to our friends.

Very strange being on the 4th and 5th floors of an old style office block. As stated in other reviews, the lift is rather noisy but only goes up to the 4th floor, so being on the 5th floor and down the corridor we were not bothered by it. Some other guests were a little noisy due to the lightweight doors not stopping much sound.

The manager seems a little scary at first, but is very helpful, friendly and speaks v.good english. The whole place could do with a bit of updating.

Breakfast adequate but very repetitive.

It is however very well placed being between two metro stations, and to the north a large modern shopping complex. Get a taxi from/to the airport as it is quite close and cheap.

Downhill there are some cheap restaurants. They don't look much from outside but the food is very good and the wine cheap.

Read other reviews on this hotel and don't understand them. After being totally confused as to the exact location of this hotel in the building. Lift noisy (kept awake at night by it), the bar only served soft drinks, not enough tables for breakfast and our room was not like any from the pictures. Smelt musty, no mini bar - there was a working fridge, but it was empty!!
