Description: Located in Chiado, the Cantinho do Avillez restaurant welcomes you with a natural blend of the traditional and the modern. Quality is the priority with Chef Jose Avillez, and so nothing is left to chance. The cuisine, largely Portuguese inspired, is nevertheless influenced by travels abroad. The menu offers a wide choice of appetizers, "pregos" (steak sandwiches), entrees, main dishes and desserts, so that the gastronomic experience can be different at each visit. The service, which is pleasant and informal, contributes to the cheerful and relaxed climate.

“Overrated...was hoping for something special.”
Reviewed July 28, 2014

Tried this place for lunch and it was bustling for a weekend afternoon. The prices were high for a meal and I noticed many ordering appetizers or prego sandwiches. The prego was tasty but not really set up a part from other establishments.the fries were disappointing. However, the green bean tempura had a nice flavor.I must commend the staff who were helpful and seemed to enjoy their jobs!!The decor is rather bland with no personality or soul permeating. In other words, dull.I opted for dessert which was the hazelnut. Again, ok but lacked more substance rather than fluff.Overall, a disappointment after reading all the hype.Perhaps dinners are better.I found it expensive for the product.

“Lisbon culinary highlight”
Reviewed July 24, 2014

This is a must for those wanting Portuguese food in a funky atmosphere. This was my favourite restaurant.
Needed a reservation.
The waiters were all super friendly and attentive!
I had the scallops with avocados for a starter and the black pork for mains - both were fantastic!! Sadly no room for desert!!

“A restaurant that stays focused!”
Reviewed July 22, 2014 via mobile

This restaurant does not disappoint! Although the menu is somewhat limited but the dishes are excellent! The starter - black pork slices were good for pairing with wine. But on hindsight should have ordered the scallops. But my main course, Cantina beef was good and the potato chips were really slices of potatoes fried! Advice; do order the Rose wine which is crisp and uncoy. Dinner for 2 inc wines was about 82 euros. Not forgetting our server, Francisco, was superb with recommendations!

“Fantastic food and good service”

Fantastic food for all of us and we were a big group of friends, testing different things on the menu. Don't forget to have the house red wine. The best wine we tasted in Lissabon

“Delicious!”
Reviewed July 15, 2014

One of the best culinary experiences I have ever had!
I visited this restaurant with my two friends. We ordered the lamb tagine, DOP meatballs with green curry, Thai rice, zucchini and Portobello mushroom risotto, bacon and Parmesan cheese. All main courses were amazing, in my opinion meatballs with curry was the best choice. Definitely worth a try dessert: lemon sorbet with basil and vodka - very refreshing.
