“Excellent Hotel in excellent location.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 9, 2014

We recently spent a four day break in Lisbon with some friends staying at the Marques De Pombal Hotel. Excellent staff throughout starting at Reception. All very knowledgeable and very helpful. Rooms were very comfortable with all amenities. No noise from other rooms at all. Although the hotel is on one of the main avenues, there was very little traffic noise as glazing was excellent. Breakfast was good with choice of hot or cold and was always plentiful.

Prices in the bar and restaurant were on a par with the rest of Lisbon. Lots of lovely bars and restaurants to choose from but we loved one opposite the hotel.

Very good location to get the Hop on/Hop off buses and the trams etc., but one of the main squares is a nice walk downhill from the hotel but advise a taxi back. Cost us 5 euros.
Would certainly stay again as there is so much to see in Lisbon and it is a beautiful city. A MUST are the 'custard pastries' - one is definitely not enough!

Room Tip: We had a side room near the front of the hotel and it was lovely.

Have stayed at this property before. It continues to provide great service with simple clean modern rooms. Had a great view. Sylvia at reception was kind and always willing to assist as well as her colleagues. Breakfast was plentiful and had a good assortment. Professional service by staff. Attentive and ready to help. Tables were sophisticated with white table cloths. Quality fruit with various pastries and breads. Was at hotel for 5 nights and did not good bored with the selection. The location is also excellent. Feels private with a central metro stop steps away. Most areas of Lisboa are walkable from the hotel such as Barrio Alto, Chiado, and as far down as Praca de Comercio. Location worked for me. Areas is well kept. Considering there are high end shops within a couple blocks. Such as Cartier, Prada, Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, and Gucci. Easy metro access to hotel from the train station or to the airport. Enjoy.

Room Tip: High floor and corner room.

This was a fairly typical city centre hotel, in that it could have been anywhere. Not particularly Portuguese, just a functional, clean place to stay in Lisbon.

The beds were good, and the rooms were thankfully well insulated from traffic noise. The breakfast was adequate and the staff perfunctory.

Would I go back? Nah, there's a whole city of hotels to discover for the price.

Great hotel situated close to Pombal square where the tourist bus departs from . in a great part of the city with a lovely down hill stroll to the centre of the city - c.15 minutes to the first square passing all the designer high end shops on the way - Mk / LV etc etc . Bit of a tougher walk back !!! Definite need for comfortable foot wear as the streets are cobbled. Great idea to get the tour bus to see the city - we got three lines for great value €20 at hotel reception and did the tours over a couple of days . we took the red line the first day staying on the complete tour and went back down to the harbour area and had a lovely walk back . Red line and blue line definitely worth doing the castle line is mostly a repeat of the others with the exception of going up narrow streets to the castle !! The hotel more than met all our needs , we had a very comfortable room , great shower and lovely large clean white fluffy towels changed daily . The hotel is based on a busy street and we did sleep with the windows open so we had some street noise but not too much to bother us . We also had the bonus of having a smoking room - the hotel appear to have a floor dedicated to smoking rooms . Breakfast was really good each morning and more than adequate with juice , bacon , eggs , fruit , yogurts , breads, pastries, meats , cheese etc etc . Also the coffee ( Nepresso machine~) was excellent and there was never an issue taking a fresh coffee out at end of breakfast to enjoy in your room. The hotel has a nice quiet bar where the price of drinks is very reasonable for a city - bottle of really nice house red wine was €11- a pint of larger and a glass of wine was €7.20 which would be hard to find in any other city in Europe. Supermarket was up the side street 5/10 minutes walk for water etc and also if around for lunch recommend the Yami noodle bar across the road - only open during the week. close by beside Pombal square upstairs in the bank building was The Great American Disaster burger bar which was excellent and also very reasonable. Limited dinner menu in the hotel but the food was excellent. The staff in the hotel are first class and very very friendly from reception to housekeeping to the restaurant and the bar . They could not do enough for you and were so pleasant and helpful even calling the lift and holding doors open , nothing was a problem and they were all so willing to assist in any query no matter how small. The only small thing about the area was the scarcity of restaurants ( a couple of fish which is not my taste). Overall would definitely recommend this hotel for value for money, service and hospitality. I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel for a base for your city break in Lisbon.

Room Tip: We had room on third floor as smokers - excellent on the side of the hotel .

We stayed 5 nights and would most definitely recommend this hotel. The staff are most helpful and welcoming, room very comfortable, great choice at breakfast. It's possible to purchase transport, tour bus and museum tickets at reception. It's an easy walk to the lower town, however the metro stop is right outside the hotel entrance.

We stayed at the hotel for four nights. Although it's on a main thoroughfare, the windows are all double glazed so traffic noise isn't a problem. Breakfast room, though not big, is more than adequate, food varied and caters for everyone. We ate in the hotel one evening and found the food excellent and competitively priced vis a vis outside restaurants. The hotel is just a five minute walk from the city tour buses startpoint and a downhill ten/fifteen minute walk to the main shopping centre downtown. The reception staff were very helpful and could not be faulted. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at the hotel.

Room Tip: We stayed in Room 210 ,which looked on to a side road ,just around the corner from the main thorough...

We caught the aerobus 1 from the airport to the Marques Pombal roundabout and the hotel is a very short walk down the Avenida de Liberdade. Check-in was friendly and efficient and we were pleasantly surprised to be able to go to our room straightaway as we had arrived mid-morning (rooms are shown as available from 2pm on the website.) Help with our cases was immediately offered as soon as we walked in to the lobby! The room was not huge but perfectly adequate and comfortable and had a lovely view down to the Castelo Sao Jorge (we were on the 7th floor - room 712) The room and bathroom were very clean and housekeeping was done to a good standard throughout our stay. We found the pillows very comfy (and there are spares in the wardrobe if necesssary) though I did find the mattress a little too firm for me. The air conditioning didn't seem terribly efficient - it was a beatifully warm and sunny weekend and we decided we needed the window open to get some fresh air in each evening. Breakfast was very good - nice pastries, fresh fruit as well as some cooked options and cereals. The breakfast room is not huge and some tables are laid out in the lift lobby area - a bit too chilly and less congenial. I was glad we were able to find a table in the main room each morning.
All staff we encountered were very helpful and professional. The only (slight) downside is the location at the top end of the Avenida - after a long hot day walking around the sights of Lisbon the walk back up to the hotel was just a fraction longer than I'd have liked! However it turned out to be a blessing in disguise as it meant we explored the eating options close to the hotel and we found some very good options along the Rua Santa Marta and Rua S. Jose the other side of the Avenida. We booked our room direct with the hotel and got a very good deal. I would be very happy to stay at this hotel again.
