“Excellent value for money in a great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 11, 2012

I needed a hotel for 36 hours stopover in Lisbon and booked NH Liberdade off the cuff. The hotel is really well located and the rooms, facilities and staff are first rate. The pool and bar area on the top is a nice addition to the hotel.

The amenities were also first rate - they provide everything from razors to sponges and shower gels etc

All in all a solid recommendation from me.

We had a fab holiday in Lisbon during our 6 night stay, in a comfy 10th floor room. We enjoyed the buffet breakfast and the super convenient location, as it is adjacent to the Aerobus stop and Avenida Metro station. The staff were helpful and friendly, and our parents have booked to stay here on our recommendation, as they love Lisbon. Thanks to David on reception and look forward to our next trip to the city / hotel.
Tip: To experience local and excellent value for money Portugese cuisine, exit the hotel and take the escalator down, and walk through the food court onto Rua Sao Jose, and seek out tiny cafes and cantinhas on the street. You may be advised to take phrase book and practice your language skills. These were small, clean, no frills eateries owned by genuine folks, and we were made to feel welcome. One evening, we paid €8 each for a lovely, freshly prepared evening meal with house wine... enjoy!

This hotel is in a good location for transport links, the rooms are comfortable and the pool is a plus. The rooms look onto an international courtyard that would benefit greatly from a couple of trees or plants. the best were the reception staff.........really helpful and always with a smile.

As hotels go this one failed to inspire. This is classified as a four star hotel, but despite the management’s statements to the contrary it does not provide 4 star service. I stayed for three dreary nights on business instead of staying at the Tiara Park Atlantic (5 star), the usual place I stay when In Lisbon. Big mistake. The hotel is well placed for high end shopping and is contemporary in feel and clean, but here are the issues:
1. It lacks a decent restaurant and bar. The management says it is located in the Tivoli Forum with 20+ fast food restaurants, but I expect a four star hotel to have a good restaurant and bar on site - I don't expect to have to go out and walk around a precinct for food;
2. The reception is undermanned, resulting in queues. The management says it is frequently fully booked and it is difficult to predict other rush hours. But I say that other 4 star hotels have the same issues to contend with and do a far better job;
3. You pay through the nose for 24 hour wi-fi access in your room. The Management say they use a third party supplier, Swisscom for this. The supplier is irrespective – it’s still overpriced and free in the Tiara Park up the road;
4. You wait for 10 minutes for room service to pick the phone up (I noted another contributor had the same problem). When the room service burger and chips turned up it was covered in cling film, resulting in luke warm soggy chips. The management says it offers 16 hour room service (presumably to compensate for not having a restaurant open in the evening). Well, it wasn't working efficiently when I stayed there – again not what I expect from a four star hotel;
5. The room I stayed in, 304, faces into a gloomy inner courtyard. Insist on a room that faces out of the hotel. The management subsequently advised the best rooms are on the upper floors – so make sure you ask for them;
6. You have to iron your clothes in the manager’s office behind reception. I am not joking. Apparently a previous guest had left the iron on the desk – so the hotel will not allow an iron and ironing board to be taken back to the room. All ironing had to be done in the manager’s office. To make matters even more inconvenient the lead on the iron was insufficient to get around the ironing board. Four star service? I don’t think so…….
7. A basic breakfast. You won't find a hot breakfast option in the restaurant. No menu - strictly continental buffet - with machine coffee. The management insist that hot dishes are done on request and this info is shown on “the buffet”. Well, it was hidden and they don’t promote it. Hardly what you expect from a four star establishment.

All things considered, if you're staying in Lisbon, pay a bit more and go 5 star. You'll get a lot more of everything to offset the incremental cost. There's nothing worse than thinking you've saved a few pounds on a hotel booking and then regretting it when you get there. If you do choose to stay there – don’t forget to take your iron……

Room Tip: Ask for rooms on the upper floors facing outwards to the city - not inwards towards the courtyard.

Room was a decent size, contemporary design and very clean - as was the hotel as a whole. Very good value.

The location was great - walking distance to everywhere you want to go and would thoroughly recommend it.

My only criticism is that the rooftop pool (one of the main reasons I chose this hotel) was unheated and ABSOLUTELY freezing even in June. It would have been lovely to take at dip at the end of a day walking around Lisbon so this was a little disappointing...

Room Tip: Ask for a higher floor to get partial views across the city

Stayed at this hotel for 1 night. Located on a very nice street with high end shopping available. hotel inside shopping center with many shops and restaurants. Walking distance to every sight.

Room was very big and clean. It even had a mini kitchenette.
Bathroom was great.

would definitely recommend and stay there again.

I have stayed at NH Liberdade for 4 nights with my husband and my two year old son. I got a suite so we could have more space for our toddler. The room was very nice and comfortable with a small living room and sink area with expresso machine and electric pot for boiling water, which was great for making bottles. I find it terrible to use the bathroom sink at hotels for that. The hotel provided a very nice crib with nice sheets that were changed every day and a nice bumper too. A nice touch was the amenities for the baby like shampoo, shower gel etc. We could have continental breakfast in the room for no extra cost. We also ordered the restaurant a nice vegetable soup for my son for dinner. The location was great. In the building there are several restaurants if you don't want to go out for dinner. I would definitely recommend this hotel.
