“Standard Marriott”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 14, 2013 via mobile

Decent business hotel, only 10-15 minutes from the airport, and similar from downtown. Wifi is excellent - but you have to pay for it. Room service is hit and miss - can take an incredibly long time to arrive. Breakfast buffet is fine. Very little of interest in the area is the main problem....you have to jump in a cab.

As others have previously reviewed, the hotel is not in a good location. Not really convenient to anything around town.

That being said, it really is a nice hotel. I'm a platinum premier and they upgraded me to a junior suite. Very nice. (Although a bit of smell of smoke in the living room when the air conditioner wasn't running.) Concierge lounge was a bit crowded but had a nice spread.

We had a meeting at the hotel and the food and beverage was very good. Restaurant does a nice job with their buffet for both breakfast and lunch. Snacks and drinks on the breaks were over the top with local pastries.

Would recommend this hotel to meeting planners. Also thought that taxis were very reasonably priced - so not out of the question for loyal Marriott customers who still want to see the sites in Lisbon.

We enjoyed the view and room in this hotel. It was always clean and we got excellent service from the staff.

However, if you are looking to get around Lisbon using public transport, this is probably not the place. We walked to the nearest subway, zoological, to sight see, get dinner, etc. The station is about a mile away, downhill, so the walk back was a workout!

We did have a rental, but did not want to drive around the city center.

There are no restaurants locally, so you really need to venture out or eat in the hotel restaurant. They had so/so food and was quite expensive. We preferred eating in the city cente!

Overall we LOVED Lisbon, but would choose a different hotel if we went back because of the location.

Booked via Marriott for 72 euros (including breakfast).

One thing: if you come from the airport with luggage, take a taxi. As mentionned by others, this hotel is located 10-15 minutes from the Jardim Zoologico station, but its all uphill from there. Taxis are cheaper, use them.

Arrived early but my room was ready, so showered and rested a bit from my flight. The room was big by euro standard, with a comfie king bed, a good sized bathroom with bidet (prefer the Argentine model I must say), LCD TV with limited channels in English (they did have TV 5 en francais and a few spanish ones). The bad: expensive wifi at 19 euros a day.

However, they are redeemed by the quality of the breakfast, nice and high class, with omelette station, lots of pasteis, cheeses, meats, ....the turkey sausages where a bit hard...I also used the restaurant one evening, and the 4 course table d'hote was top notch and good priced, at 25 euros ( + 9 euros for 2 glasses of wine): entree of pate, fish dish, lamb stew, and desert, with 2 great Portuguese wines.

The gym left a bit to be desired with out of service equipment. I did walk a lot which made up for this. Pool was closed for the winter.

The concierge service was useful: and watch for Nuno on the internal TV channel! Good recommendations (you'll understand when you get there). Obrigado Nuno.

I would recommend this to someone who does not mind a good walk to the metro, Worth every penny.

Room Tip: Taxi from airport : 10-20 euros depending on time of day Taxi to airport: daytime: less than 6 euro...

Comfortable room and really only a short jaunt to downtown since the Metro in Lisbon is very convenient. There are some good local spots around to dine (just ask the bellman). a good choice close by is Mr. Papas.

Not a far cab ride to downtown, about 6 or 7 euros and there seemed to always be taxis waiting. Having said that you can't go out for the typical cafe da amanha, the portuguese bar breakfast. This hotel does really lack in charm of any type, let alone Portuguese charm. Reminds me of some of the soviet style hotels, very stark and uninviting. The internet is 9 euros per day which I found surprising for a Marriott, but strong signal once you get it. I love the small restaurants and bars of Lisbon and there are not really none within walking distance of this hotel. The checkin was very laborious, tried to upsell on breakfast and internet package and when I mentioned my surprise at the internet and breakfast charges he asked me if I had booked it and then brought me a copy to show that indeed I had booked a room without breakfast and internet - ouch, can I just go to the room now! Lighting was however grat and a very good television. Unless you want the points I would however stay downtown and really enjoy this great city.
