My wife and I stayed here for a week over Thanksgiving holiday. This hotel is a classic. My parents stayed there 40 years ago when it was new. It is showing its age on the outside. However, the interior is lavish. The furnishings and decor are sumptuous. Our room was spacious and luxurious with a huge park view terrace. The staff are friendly and seem to anticipate your requests. The concierges could not be more helpful. The only negative is the location up the long hill from the downtown area. We would definitely stay there again.

This hotel is a very classic style hotel. It is nothing to look at on the outside. It is very old world inside. There tends to be older couples (over 55) staying in the hotel. The bar is nice with great service but for an older crowd. I suggest going out for a more lively scene. The rooms are huge. Very comfortable and nice amenities. The spa is the best part. Great treatments, great pool and service. The spa is absolutely beautiful.
The conceirge was helpful one night but the next day the lady was not that helpful. They seem to only recommend what is in their computer. It was pulling teeth to get her to recomment something other than the fish restaurant by the water which is probably filled with tourists.
It is a nice hotel but nothing compared to the Four Seasons in Bali, Thailand or NY.

Truly fantastic! Service cannot be faulted. 50's elegance in the common area's - truly gracious and elegant. This hotel and its staff will transport you back to a time (before my time) of true service and great professionalism. Huge luxurious rooms, huge bathrooms. And detail (finer detail) that most luxury hotels have actually forgotten exist. I travel the world on business and am lucky to stay in some of the best establishments. This is a classic like few others.

My fiance and I were traveling through Spain and, disappointed with the best hotels across the country, decided the anecdote would be the nearest Four Seasons. We therefore took a detour to Lisbon.

Our rental car broke down about a mile from the hotel. Frustrated and stressed (in the middle of Lisbon's rush hour), we parked in the nearest parking area and took a taxi to the hotel. We left our non-essential bags in the car.

Although not impressive from the outside, the lobby is warm and inviting. We were greeted with smiles from the front desk, and when we explained our car problem, the man at reception took down our decription of landmarks near the car (we had no idea where we left it) and he told us not to worry, he would take care of everything. We had only 2 days to enjoy Lisbon, he insisted we begin touring the city.

We arrived back at the hotel 2 hours later and all our bags were in our room. By the next day a new rental car was waiting for us at the valet.

The hotel's perfect service in regard to our potentially stessful situation helped make the trip to Lisbon perfect.

Addressing the hotel itself and its amenities, our room was large and had a big balcony. We didn't use it (it was January) but might have eaten breakfast on it had the weather been warmer. The bathroom was not as nice as a newer Four Seasons, and the tub was quite small, but it had charm. There was a separate WC, two pedestal sinks, and a separate tub and shower. The hallway at the entrance to the room could be closed off with an additional door -- this was nice as there was no issue of noise in the hallway.

Because it was winter, there was no AC (cold air) in the room -- only heat. This seemed to be the standard at the older hotels we stayed at in Spain as well. I like it cold, and I found this disappointing. We were able to open the door to the balcony, however, and it wasn't very loud at all. The hotel overall was quite warm.

Our package (AMEX Platinum) came with breakfast. The first morning we ate at the buffet. Service was phenomenal. Selection was weak, however. The next morning we ate in the room. We ordered about 6 different meals, and it was all included in the package price...good deal.

The 15 minutes of free internet use mentioned in other reviews is a good deal compared to most top hotels. We regularly spent up to half an hour reading/writing emails and were never charged a cent.

We went swimming one morning -- the indoor pool is very large and there was nobody there but us. It was fully staffed, nonetheless.

We didn't have the chance to work out at the top-floor gym, but went there one night for the view. It was outstanding; definitely make it up there to see for yourself. There was also an outdoor track along the roof of the hotel.

The location of the Ritz was good -- not at the center of the action, but a 5 minute walk to the subway, and a 3 minute subway ride to the center of town. I would not let this be a deterrent.

In terms of how this hotel rates against other Lisbon hotels, we only visited one other top hotel, the Avenida Palace (I think) near the big square. The public rooms were grand, beautiful, and much more bustling than the Ritz (busier location), but the guest rooms were very disappointing. Four Seasons was far superior, in my opinion.

Overall, an exceptional stay. The Four Seasons Ritz has lots of charm and the service makes it a wonderful, wonderful place to stay when in Lisbon.

We (my wife and I with another couple) spent a week here in November, 2005. I have a hard time finding anything negative to say about the hotel, but since this is a review, let's get teh negatives out of the way first.

The location is not the best. It is something like a 20 minutes walk to the "action" and about a 30 minutes walk back (hills, my friends, hills). This is not a serious problem as taxis are are inexpensive and plentiful in Lisbon (and one can hail them on the street). For those that like a random stroll, there is a nice park just across the street with two nice greenhouses. The nearest ATM is two blocks uphill (exit the hotel and turn right). This one never did work, but there is another one one-half block further in the same direction.

The outside of the building is rather blah.

High speed Internet is 23 euros per 24 hour period(via cable) in your room. However. WiFi is available in teh public areas and, if you just want to check email, there is free 15 minutes usage of their machines in the business center.

That is about it for the negatives.

If you want to make your arival easy, the hotel will pick you up at the airport (or any place else) for 35 euros. This includes meet and greet just outside customs. It is the same price going to the airport. The driver will even order room service for you while you ride into town.

The dining room offers an excellent dinner with a decent wine list. Expensive though. The same room offers a buffet lunch (very expensive). Lighter fare is available at the bar which also offers high tea for those so inclined. Breakfast is wonderful although the coffee is not great (we never did find good coffee anywhere). As breakfast was included in our rate, I do not know how much they charge.

Our room was excellent with a balconey overlooking the park. Very large, very nicely furnished. The artwork in the public spaces is excellent; in the guest rooms it is not.

Service was about the best I have ever recieved at a large hotel (right up there with The Peninsula). They even offer a reasonable exchange rate.
